re: LA Racing loosens drug regulations
Posted by Overbrook on 6/1/24 at 5:45 pm
It’s ridiculous. It is and it’s going to drive the out-of-state trainers out of fairgrounds. At a time when they need more of them, not less.
If they want to make Evangeline and Delta Downs playpens for the good old boys, fine. But leave Fairgrounds out of it....

James Madison’s student fee is over 5k per year. $2,300 of that is for athletics.
Still interested? ...
re: Louisiana chemical plant threatens to shut down if EPA emissions deadline isn’t relaxed

Half a mile from an elementary school. If we have to have these chemical plants, that insist on thrusting their business costs onto others, at least there should be a large safe zone.
North By Northwest
North by Northwest is my favorite movie of all time. The plot doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it is interesting. I love the cinematography of mid-century Americana. The United Nations, the trains, the redcoats, the cornfield and then Mt Rushmore.
I l...
re: Would you be in favor of another College Baseball tournament(like the NIT) for baseball?
Posted by Overbrook on 5/28/24 at 5:56 pm
It would be like the CIT, not the NIT: pay for play.
There's no money for it....
re: All four bubble teams that got NCAA Baseball tournament bids had ADs on the committee

What about James Madison, one of the the big bubbles of the field? What about Georgia Tech? ...
re: Does the Pac 12 survive if they closed the deal with Texas and Oklahoma 12-15 years ago?
Posted by Overbrook on 5/27/24 at 7:16 am
Yes, but that would’ve required good leadership. And if they had good leadership, they would have survived, regardless of Texas and Oklahoma.
The league that should’ve collapsed as the big 12. They lost all of their water carriers. Still, ESPN gave them a huge contract - a much better contract ...
re: Has to be unprecedented! Every Major LA College Baseball Team makes their Tournament Final
Posted by Overbrook on 5/27/24 at 7:13 am
I would say that Pierce level teams are an acceptable outcome. If that’s the goal, we’re likely to fall short of it....
re: Has to be unprecedented! Every Major LA College Baseball Team makes their Tournament Final

To be determined. We’ll never get back to where we were from 98-05. If he can get us back to Pierce level in the RPI 30 to 40 team, then he’ll have done his job...
re: Louisiana College Baseball - NCAA Tournament thread
Posted by Overbrook on 5/26/24 at 4:12 pm
I hated the hiring process, not so much the hire.
Should be in a good spot. As a high 4 or low 3 seed, we should be matched with a low 1 seed if they seed this correctly....
re: Ending of White Sox - Orioles game
Posted by Overbrook on 5/24/24 at 7:02 am
Terrible officiating. Yeah, it’s the White Sox, but it’s also the Orioles and they’re getting a free win here
Baseball is the sport with its officials most closely integrated into the culture of the game.
It’s also the sport in which the officials can most easily be replaced by technology.

re: Tim Connelly and Dell Demps . T-Wolves Front Office
Posted by Overbrook on 5/21/24 at 9:33 pm
Demps effed up a lot of stuff when he was with the Pels. But you learn from your mistakes and it’s not surprising that he’s better his second go around.
And was right about Jrue. ...

The Warhawks will be interesting for the next few seasons.
They are giving it a go!...

re: Does Shawshank Redemption Have The Best Ending In Movie History?
Posted by Overbrook on 5/3/24 at 12:42 pm
The ending is great, but the watcher deserves it, because the movie drags in the middle.
Stalag17, which also ends with an escape, also has a great ending, but drags in the middle. ...

re: 40 MLB Executives Rank The Best Front Offices In Baseball

The Astros should obviously be higher on this list. The Cubs too. They had a quick rebuild and are back in the game.
How did the Mariners get on the list at all? They haven’t made the playoffs in ages. ...
re: UConn AD took out insurance policy on teams advancing/winning tourney

They would’ve gotten that easily. The insurance paid even money.
I believe UConn‘s men were +325 to win the national title. ...
