Just curious: why is this down at the bottom if it’s “pinned”??

ISW Update

quote:

Key Takeaways:

Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged that Russia’s ongoing strike campaign against Ukrainian energy facilities aims in part to devastate the Ukrainian defense industry, confirming ISW’s ongoing assessment that Russian strikes against Ukrainian energy facilities aim to degrade Ukrainian defense industrial capacity.

ISW continues to assess that the development of Ukraine’s defense industrial base (DIB) over time can allow Ukraine to sustain its defense against Russia and longer-term national security needs with significantly reduced foreign military assistance.

Russian forces are domestically producing and fielding a new air-to-surface subsonic cruise missile against Ukraine designated the Kh-69 as part of continued efforts to improve strike packages and penetrate Ukraine’s degraded air defense.

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) claimed that it prevented a group of Central Asians from perpetrating a terrorist attack against a Russian military facility in occupied Ukraine with Ukraine’s help, likely as part of efforts to set information conditions to portray any future Ukrainian attack on legitimate Russian military targets in occupied Ukraine as “terrorist” attacks.

Russian forces recently made confirmed advances near Avdiivka and Donetsk City.

Russia is reportedly sending about 2,400 Eastern Military District (EMD) military personnel currently in Russia to fight in Ukraine to make up for personnel losses at the front.

Russian occupation officials continue to expand educational programs that aim to indoctrinate Ukrainian children and erase their Ukrainian identity.

And long overdue. The decline in our military that began during the Obama administration is continuing. We are nowhere near strong enough to deter Chinese aggression

Wasn't that decline in defense spending the winding down of the War on Terror and a reaction to the financial crisis? I don't remember anybody saying "let's stop spending money on the military" except the campus protestors who forget to vote.

But... I've mentioned my opinion that the collective West needs to transition to a War-time economy.

INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 13 April 2024

On 6 April 2024, Russian President Putin passed two laws to support Russian Armed Forces personnel fighting in Ukraine and their families. The first law exempted Russian service personnel fighting in Ukraine from paying interest on consumer loans and credit holidays. This follows on from an October 2022 law which exempted mobilised personnel and other participants of the Russian invasion of Ukraine from accruing penalties for late payments for housing, communal services, loans, and credit card debts.

The second piece of legislation signed by Putin amended the Russian Labour Code and prohibits employers from dismissing widows of Russian service personnel for one year from the date of the husband's death.

The Kremlin has likely instituted these laws in hopes of appeasing Russian service personnel, financially incentivising more recruits to join the fight in exchange for state benefits and to limit criticism from the wives of deceased service personnel. Whilst any payment holidays may cost the Russian federal government little in the short term, they are likely to have longer term implications for the Russian economic situation and outlook.

Syrskyi: 'Situation on eastern front has significantly deteriorated in recent days'

by Nate Ostiller and The Kyiv Independent news desk

The situation on Ukraine's eastern front has "significantly deteriorated in recent days" amid an intensification of Russia's offensive efforts, the Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said on April 13.

The dire warning comes against the backdrop of a shortage of ammunition plaguing the Ukrainian military, which has been exacerbated by an ongoing impasse in Congress over U.S. aid.

Syrskyi said that warm, dry weather has enabled Russia to increase its armored assaults in the areas of Bakhmut, Lyman, and Pokrovsk.

The general said that the tempo of the Russian offensive in the east has heightened since last month's presidential election, which saw Russian President Vladimir Putin handily win another six-year term in office. The election was widely seen as rigged.

Ukraine is working to stabilize the situation and "strengthen the most problematic defense areas with electronic warfare and air defense," Syrskyi said.

Both foreign and Ukrainian officials have said the lack of U.S. aid has begun to hurt Ukraine's position on the battlefield and warned that the situation could worsen without a new infusion of military assistance.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier in April that "Ukraine will lose the war" if Congress does not approve further aid.

Don’t think anyone is arguing that, the argument is that they are trying to drag this out to extract more value long term. The more and better we send the more and better we must eventually replace

Germany is officially sending one more Patriot battery to
Ukraine. I guess negotiations are still ongoing about the other Patriot system and the SAMP/T that were being discussed about transfer to Ukraine. These would be coming from other countries than Germany though. I assume the SAMP/T is most likely coming from France.

Cargo pants says they will lose the war without US money.....

News flash cargo pants, you would have lost the war two years ago....without US money..

When your own generals are saying the "situation is dire" I dare say its a wee bit more than dire.

Russia has withstood the money, intel, training and weapons of the West and continues to advance, quite impressive when you think about it. Would have mopped this up years ago it the West had not meddled, but it wont be long now anyway.

The argument is the MIC caused the war via sine kind of globalist cabal. They sucked Putin in to attacking Ukraine so they could make billions selling Ukraine weapons to defeat the Russians.

Someone made done outlandish stock market claims. I pointed out that they were wrong.

That’s tgd gyst of it.

Russia had way underperformed. Remember initially they attacked when there was very little Western aid provided Ukraine and their three pronged attacks were stopped and rolled back.

I will use my football analogy again. Russia was favored by 35 and it’s the fourth quarter. Yes they are up 7 and the Ukraine D is tiring, but they aren’t close to covering the spread.

This is not correct. Nobody thought we were going to "sell" weapons to Ukraine. Only that our MIC would get paid (likely by us) to create tons of new everything as a result of this war. We are turning over the MIC inventories and pols are getting their palms greased

More humiliation for the AmerIcan people at the hands of a US congress frozen by Russian interests as Kremlin media now openly refers to US House Speaker Mike Johnson as "ours" for disarming Ukraine.

The only thing bad here is the palm-greasing, and this would be happening no matter where the tax money was being spent.

The fact that the "far-right" and the "far-left" now share the exact same talking points about how America and NATO are evil puppets of shadowy globalists and should fall is amazing to me... as is the fact that they don't look at the fact that they share the same talking points and think it's screwy and that maybe they've been manipulated by 25 years of Russian and Chinese social media manipulation psy ops.
