I thought that was one of those bullshite made up numbers but apparently he actually signed a contract for that amount. Which is about the same contract amount slotted for the 24th pick of the NFL draft. Fricking INSANE

But his arrival in Gainesville was contingent on a four-year, $13 million NIL deal he signed with the Gator Collective, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The Gator Collective is an independent fundraising arm that disburses money to student-athletes in all sports. The financial backing fell through, however -- the Gator Collective terminated the binding agreement -- and left Florida coach Billy Napier to scramble to try to get Rashada to campus.

that's 13 million over 4 years. not really crazy when considering he's a QB and how much money college football programs rake in annually.

So about 3 million a year? Do you know how much Gino Smith made this year? 3.5 million and he is the starting QB for a playoff team. If Florida agreed to 13 million then they are getting what they deserve. Props to the kids agent though..

The NCAA needs to get their shite together on this before it destroys college football.

This is one that can honestly not be put in the NCAA. It's beyond their reach. If they had their way there would be no NIL. They lost in court hence why NIL exists. They have no ability to cap it, regulate it or generally do a thing about any of it. Read around about this stuff. Everyone and their brother is calling for Congress to reign it in. They are the only group legally able to regulate any of it. Doubt it's anywhere near the top of their agenda.

You can put the blame on the programs. They spent decades making billions off these kids backs and now want to complain they have to give a little back. Add that with an everchanging social landscape and you can basically classify NIL as college footballs version of reparations.

1. He isn’t getting paid that much. Even if it was agreed upon, he isn’t going to school there

2. The football programs do not pay for NIL

Right, it’s all made up. No one was intending to pay Rashada 13 million dollars.

The only exception would be if he stayed all 4 years at UF and had a really good freshman season and then put up Burrow 2019 numbers for the next 3 years.

Then they’d figure out a way to make the numbers work.

Otherwise it’s all BS. Rashada and his handlers may not have understood this, or maybe the UF people communicated it badly or outright lied.

But I feel very confident that the money he would get upfront would be in the mid six figures by year’s end, with plenty of carve outs for subsequent years if he was on the bench or just not as good as expected.

Why is it OK for high school baseball players to make that kind of money to play in the minor leagues, but not OK for football players?

Yeah I don’t understand how people can’t grasp this. A heisman- or natty-winning QB is worth FAR more than $13m total to their program in just a single year. Even accounting for the uncertainty involved, $2-3m/year really isn’t that much.

Fine … pay him once he’s proven something. The landscape is littered with 4-star QBs who never panned out. I hope LSU never puts themselves in that position.

Is this a for real question, lol. Bc they are not a high school baseball player or college players, they are professional baseball player once drafted and signed a contract with a major league ball club. If you going to use an example try one relevant to the issue. Not trying to compare a professional athlete to a college athlete.

So, he (his family) asked for a release from his scholarship from UF because they cancelled the $13M NIL deal?

Minor leagues are professional organizations. Stop calling college amateur sports.

A qb will get much more than a running back.

You also have to remember this was between miami and florida.

I think it's closer to 7 mil over 3 or 4 yrs

it though if that would be your kid? ?

I would rather my child not have $1
3 Million to spend while she is in college. College aged kids are mostly dumb when it comes to money. I know I was.

1) Most lose money on athletics and don't make money even on football

2) NIL isn't paid from the Athletic Dept funds.

5 years from now it's going to be interesting to see what some of these teams actually got for their money. The buyer's remorse is going to be brutal because so many of these 5 star QBs never amount to anything. Pick any year and go back and look at the names you've forgotten. The Gunner Kiels of the world.

So if this is the ase, why even require them to go to school. Why not just jump straight to the NFL. Once these kids get this kind of money, they are much less motivated.

LSU landed Hurley 3yrs out from NSD. If these price tags stick how much is it going to take to keep him in 25?
