Remember that infrastructure bill Obama passed? It’s ineptitude is coming home to roost

Aren’t these freight routes privately owned? What does the infrastructure spending have to do with private rail lines?

"NTSB investigators have identified and examined the rail car that initiated the derailment. Surveillance video from a residence showed what appears to be a wheel bearing in the final stage of overheat failure moments before the derailment. The wheelset from the suspected railcar has been collected as evidence for metallurgical examination. The suspected overheated wheel bearing has been collected and will be examined by engineers from the NTSB Materials Laboratory in Washington, D.C."

i mean is it hard to point out their ignorance?

i mean yesterday you had guys on the poli board saying "why couldnt they just let the pressurized VC(that was next to other burning cars) out on to the ground"

said it seems to be a much better idea than a controlled burn aka a flair

most of the people have no frickign clue what pressurized VC is and how a spill should be handled but they have no problem getting on here saying the derailment is all part of a CIA conspiracy or in 1 case yesterday...liberator claimed this was all spelled out in the book of revelations

seriously...you cant make up some of the stupidty posted on here and the pT daily.

• Safe: Between 2000 and 2021, the train accident was down 33% and between 2012 and 2021, the
hazmat accident rate was down 55%. The rail employee injury rate in 2020 was an all-time low.

There's a rash of people searching the web for local news stories of minor rail derailments.

*That doesn't mean there are more derailments.

Considering NS operates over 22,000 miles of routes, some of which have 60 trains per day, is it really that interesting?

Damn,
didn't realize it was as common as it was.

This was linked on the Railroad Workers United Union site. 48 major derailments in 2019.

It should be noted that the list linked also includes derailments in Canada.

There are lots of derailments every year. The vast majority are not serious and even fewer are large enough to make the national news.

*In the current hyped environment every derailment is apparently national news. For obvious reasons.

What you have to ask yourself, is what news is being deflected by the reports on train derailment? Something is being purposely taken out of the news cycle.

That's why I was asking. Didn't know if it was a rare occurrence and suddenly happening more or just being reported on more since they just had that big one.
