Derailments are a regular occurrence in this country and now that there has been a big news story about one, they are all getting highlighted and people are now paying attention for the time being until the next big story comes along.

"NTSB investigators have identified and examined the rail car that initiated the derailment. Surveillance video from a residence showed what appears to be a wheel bearing in the final stage of overheat failure moments before the derailment. The wheelset from the suspected railcar has been collected as evidence for metallurgical examination. The suspected overheated wheel bearing has been collected and will be examined by engineers from the NTSB Materials Laboratory in Washington, D.C."

i mean yesterday you had guys on the poli board saying "why couldnt they just let the pressurized VC(that was next to other burning cars) out on to the ground"
said it seems to be a much better idea than a controlled burn aka a flair
most of the people have no frickign clue what pressurized VC is and how a spill should be handled but they have no problem getting on here saying the derailment is all part of a CIA conspiracy or in 1 case yesterday...liberator claimed this was all spelled out in the book of revelations

So end of last year it was a rash of fires at produce/meat manufacturers and now its train derailments... hmmm.

There's a rash of people searching the web for local news stories of minor rail derailments.

It should be noted that the list linked also includes derailments in Canada.
There are lots of derailments every year. The vast majority are not serious and even fewer are large enough to make the national news.
