“We aren’t saving lives here”.

Not a doctor. But it reminded me to let the small things slide. Be patient with younger colleagues. Don’t burn yourself out.

You get what you inspect, not what you expect.

"No one cares what your title is. When I want to buy a house, the bank doesn't ask what my job title is. They look at how much money I make, how much I have saved, and my debt to income. Never once have they asked my title. Don't worry about your title, worry about how much you get paid."

My second line supervisor is a huge d bag and a terrible person. My first line supervisor told me to treat him as if he has a sickness and can’t help himself. It helps on occasion.

quote:

3 rules I live by:

1. Always use the right tool for the job.

2. The right tool is a hammer.

3. Anything can be used as a hammer.
“If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail.”

This is a famous quote by Abraham Maslow which refers to a concept commonly known as the 'law of instrument' or Maslow's Hammer.

It refers to an over-reliance on a familiar or favorite tool.

A tangent I've heard is "If you can't get something to work, get a bigger hammer."

"Don't throw a dead fish on the table."

Translation: never tell the boss there's a problem, tell the boss your solution to that problem.
