I can hold out a few years.
Been doing this for a few years now. Used to have a few shows a week that I liked, now not so much. Not saying it's all garbage just limited. Not always the writers fault, executives and agents screw it up too. imo

I hope they stay on strike for 10 years or more.
Please, for the love of God, don’t try to entertain us!

When was the last time? Anytime in the last 40-50 years? If so, I miraculously survived.

2007.
I work in the film industry and nationwide there have been very few things filmed since November of last year. I’ve been lucky enough to steadily work, but even for me the work will dry up during an extended strike. I do well, financially, so I can live pretty comfortably for a good while, but I really feel for the lower paid crew members that are going to struggle.
But saying that, film workers are almost unanimously supportive of the strike. Producers and studios do whatever they can to frick the rest of us over, and this is typically the only way to get any kind of win against them. Both SAG and the DGA’s contracts run out in a couple of months as well, so if the writers can work out a deal, it bodes well for the other unions.

And nothing of value was lost. Have korean writers for all the shows. They will show love actually inject family value and common human emotion back into cinema.

Won’t the same jokes just continue to be told in perpetuity?

Are folks in the industry fearful of chatgpt?

Maybe if the writers had stood up to the studios and refused to write shitty remakes which nobody asked for in order to check some diversity boxes, I might have some sympathy for them.
Maybe we'll get lucky and that will be one of the things they ask for in the negotiations. I think it's more likely that it is the administrative/management types that is pushing the shitty stuff than the writers. Working people tend to be relatively a little more common sense oriented.

So it’s the corporate masters that insist on having, in almost every fricking show, gay parents raising kids, transvestites, a teenager with gender issues, multiracial marriages out the arse, multiracial kids of all kinds, tough black female judges, bad wealthy white peoples, stupid white males, wiz-kid any color but white (and female?)…
It’s the same fricking shite over and over. Normalizing shite that most of us do not encounter at the frequency that televisions shows would have you believe is in every other house on your street. Netflix is especially egregious with this.

From what I hear it’s one of the more contentious issues that both sides aren’t close on. Writers want assurances that chatgpt won’t be used to punch up their writing.
I don’t know how big of a problem this should be though since you can’t copyright something created by chatgpt. That alone will make studios pretty leery.

Oh shite…who’s going to remake existing movies and destroy existing IP?

My sister isn't WGA, but is in the writer assistants union, and has many friends in the WGA.
The studio response to the writers' proposal/demands regarding AI was literally "rejected; no counter offer", and any further discussions essentially died there.

There are still some good shows out there that could also suffer. It won’t just be the ones we dislike.

Well one writer from that show about the chef called the Bear is apparently looking for a job at movie theaters. Didn't people like Shrinking? Or Severance? Abbot Elementary, Kobra Kai, and Yellowjackets are all likely to be affected.
I follow news on Severance on Reddit and they've already had major issues while trying to film season 2 but they also have issues going back to season 1 between the creator and the head writer.

According to Adam Conover, who's on the negotiating board of the WGA, it wasn't a huge issue until the studios responded the way they did. The union is trying to get ahead of and have protections from emerging technology, and the studio shutting that down looks like a huge red flag.
