Johnny Hardwick, known for playing Dale Gribble on "King of the Hill," has died.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they were called to Hardwick's Texas home Tuesday for a welfare check and discovered his body. We're told Hardwick was pronounced dead at the scene ... and no foul play is suspected. We don't yet know the cause of death.

Johnny started performing stand-up comedy in 1990 in Texas, eventually landing his first stand-up appearance on "The Jon Stewart Show" a few years later.

Most remember Johnny from his work on the long-running animated sitcom, "King of the Hill" ... playing Dale, the conspiracy theory-obsessed friend of the show's lead, Hank Hill.

Are we sure it was him and not John Redcorn that provided the voice?

Luckily, we still have the voice of Rusty Shackelford with us.

Man I hope he got some recording in for the reboot before he passed so we could give him a proper goodbye.

I can do without Luanne and Lucky. Dale will be greatly missed.

Yeah I could see the revival working even without Brittany Murphy but no Dale is impossible

Please tell me he wasn't dependent on the state after giving the world so much entertainment. Hoping it was just a concerned family member asking the police to check on him.

His YT channel hasn't been active in some time, but it was bananas. He may have died of a MJ overdose.

Umm, police conducting a welfare check has nothing to do with govt support. It means someone was concerned that he wasn’t answering, so they called the police to gain entry and check on him.
