I’ve got a retarded cousin, who I love dearly, that believes you can. He’s an idiot right?

One of my favorite beverages is apfelwein. Apple juice, sugar, and champagne yeast. Allow to ferment then bottle and chill.
So, yes?
So, yes?

Looks like your cousin just lost his title

One day someone will invent this thing where you can look up this information.

You could have asked that question to Google.

Your cousin sounds like a man who has called needing money put in his commissary before

With a little yeast and time

Just add sugar and regular bread yeast. Keep the lid loose and when it stops bubbling it’s done.

You probably can. You can definitely turn anything with sugar into alcohol- what I'm not sure about is the end result tasting anything like wine

We’re not actually trying to make any. We’re at my grandparents thanksgiving and my child wanted some apple juice, so I went to get some out of my grandparents fridge and when I pulled the lid off, I could tell it had soured. My cousin jokingly said don’t throw it away we can make some wine out of it. I chuckled and said yeah, if only it worked that way. This started us on an actual debate of whether it was possible or not.

Did he let out a Roll Tide too?

You can ferment pretty much anything as long as there is active yeast and sugar for the yeast to consume.
Of course, temperature, sanitation, etc will have an impact but that's the jist.
So to answer your question directly, no you can't just let wine juice from the store sit there untouched and expect wine. You can take that grape juice, add sugar, add yeast, and it will ferment.

actually, yes, if you're patient enough. but, you'd have to open it first to get some natural ambient yeast in there cause i'm sure they filtered it all out.
you could pour it into a glass carboy with a gas escape nozzle on top, let it go for a few weeks and you'll have wine. once it starts to bubble it should be done within a day or so.

Some days the hardest decision I have to make is whether to upvote a decent post by you.

As other posters have said, you can ferment it, but that’s a very low bar. I’m not sure any reasonable person would call it “wine”, though.

My only question would be if preservatives in the juice would kill the yeast
