Arizona beat 5 ranked teams, including their bowl win. LSU beat 1 ranked team all season. It is really a testament to the offense that LSU was able to finish as high as they did, considering the inept defense.
Not too long ago, fans were aggravated because the offense was so predictable and sluggish it could not take score, even when the great defenses provided ample opportunities. My how times have changed.
During the Les Miles era, who would have thought that LSU would ever be considered an offensive powerhouse?

WTF did the JD and MN have to do with giving up record yards once again and to what was one of the worst offenses we played against all year?
Nuss was 31 of 45 passes for 395 yards and three touchdowns. We barely won at the end 35 - 31. That crap was on the defense just like every other bad performance and/or loss this season.

Arizona is a totally different team now
The polls are supposed to reflect the season as a whole and the AP did a poor job.

So if we extracted a 12-team playoff scenario from this final poll, No. 12 LSU would play at No. 5 Bama in first round. Wow. Probably most-watched game of the playoffs.

That’s really not a particularly useful way to compare the actual difficulty of the teams they beat. Washington St finished 5-7. UCLA finished unranked including losses to 4 teams who finished unranked. Utah and Oregon St also finished unranked. Those wins just do not offset losses to Miss St and USC.

Again...not how it works people! The expanded playoffs is NOT taking the top 12 in the rankings.

Preseason polls did pretty well. Biggest misses being USC, Clemson, Mizzo, AZ, and maybe Ole Miss.
