Sounds good on the surface until you realize we already have a completely detached state

I would seriously doubt that California is going to allow for it to be mined

That’s my thought as well. Between the NIMBY and environmental folks, it would be decades before anything is produced if it did make it out of the courts.

Any minute now, some environmental group will discover an endangered species and try to the lithium in the ground.

Don’t you know that it’s the only know home of a special 9 toed speckled Salemander species? You really expect the 9 toed speckled Salemander to go extinct?

I can’t.

This land must be protected at all costs

In the salton sea??? That body of water is the endangered thing, long before the lithium discovery.

Well well well. That’s quite a conundrum for those nut jobs in Cali. On one hand you have the answer to all your environmental whacko dreams. On the other hand, they all get to see how the sausage is made now. Large scale strip mining and turning that area into what looks like the surface of the moon guarantees that no of it ever comes out of the ground.

It's a high-salinity lake and about 13 miles from Coachella. Expect environmental objections. From my understanding, lithium mining pretty much rapes the area, they won't have to look hard to find reasons to oppose it.

California, the only entity that wants to exploit natural resources less than standard lithium. The formation is marked safe.
