This would make sense in a low competition industry. But with this, people aren’t going to choose to eat lunch or breakfast at different times. They’re just going to go somewhere else. They will lose business during peak hours and they won’t see increases during the off peak hours to make up for it. This is fricking dumb.

depends on how much the prices are discounted. perhaps they are trying to steal off peak traffic from places that are more busy thru the day like mcdonalds chic fila etc.

You do realize that this is exactly what they want. You not going leaves room for other customers who are willing to pay the “premium” price.

Tanner didn’t put a ceiling on how much the dynamic pricing model could spike the cost of a meal or whether the base price would actually fall during slower periods.

No shot they let prices drop below the "baseline" during non peak hours.

I don't see the benefit of this idea. People are already complaining about fast food prices and you're going to increase them even more (even if only during "peak" hours)?

“There are people who view dynamic pricing as a rip-off,” restaurant analyst Mark Kalinowski told The Post.

Uhhhh…. Maybe that’s because it is a ripoff

Sure it is.

To be fair, Sonic (of all places) offers their "happy hour" I think it is? Something like that, I haven't been in years. Its something like 50% off all drinks and slushies from 2-4pm.

That's what I was saying above, they shouldn't have sold this is a price increase during busy times. They should have pushed a discounted price during slow times to increase traffic.

It was just a very very poor marketing campaign.

What they should have done is announced a cost increase across the board. But then announced that during the slow times it will be cheaper. You can look at it as the busy times are more, or the slow times are less. Glass half full or half empty

How will “busy times” be determined.

Will it just cost more from say 11am-1pm or will it really be dynamic and change at various times based on how many people are inside or at the drive through?

What if you drove up at 1130 and it’s empty, will you pay more? Or if you drove up at 330 and it’s packed, will you still pay less?

One of my biggest complaints about food establishments is that they’ll charge you more for extra _____ (fill in the blank), but if you tell them to leave something off if it (or less of it), the price stays the same

Chick-Fil-A actually does that. Say no tomato and they refund you like $.15 or something

This makes no sense as they should be their most efficient/productive during this period.

Well let’s be honest. There will be no real discount. Prices during surge will go up but non surge prices will stay the same and be called a “discount “

You are reading too hard on the Uber analogy.

I’m sure the “surge” pricing is predetermined by trend data and scheduled.

I thought about that after posting. You are probably right.

Another reason why they are the best fast food businesses model ever.

Awful idea and I regard Wendy's higher than most FF outlets.

This will end badly.

I don't know but I can promise you one thing: off demand prices will not be lower than they currently are now.

50% off is still a good deal.

I haven't been to Sonic recently, but I don't imagine they've raised their normal prices by 50%.

The idea you mentioned of basically doing what they did, but backwards, I agree with.

If fast food price increases haven’t already caused you to change your eating habits, you are beyond help and this won’t impact you or general demand from the fatties.
