Charleston is nice but it’s not really a beach destination. If you’re looking for a beach vacation, go to the AL coast or FL panhandle

The cool thing about Charleston is that there is far more than just beach. Wtf else you gonna do in Gulf shores? Especially with a one year old - they can't just stay at the beach all day.
The beaches are also very different and so many to choose from- huge tidal variations, awesome marsh scenery
