Where I’m from, if the rim had a net, it was a chain.

That said, I’m all onboard with Sunday 4pm cutting down the nets.

If we beat miss state and Tennessee i think we have a real case for an out large NCAA tourny bid.

Not me getting ahead of myself

We’re 93 in NET. The only way we’re making the NCAAT is by winning the SECT, which means winning 4 games in 4 days.

For above poster, it’s all speculation at this point due to NIT criteria changes, but yes, it’s certainly possible losing increases our chances for the NIT.

Possibly, I think we are more dependent on A&M winning than we are our own game.

I think when it come to the at-large selections the field is "set" right now. Meaning, if Mississippi St and/or Texas A&M are in, their games tomorrow won't affect that at all. Just seen too many occasions where the games in the tournament clearly made no impact.

Last year Vandy (11-7 in the SEC) went into the SEC Tournament on the bubble with folks saying they could play their way in. They won two games in the SECT...including beating Kentucky. Didn't matter. They were left out.

In 2018 Alabama (8-10) played A&M (9-9) in the 8/9 matchup billed as a NCAAT "elimination game". It wasn't. Alabama won...yet A&M (and Alabama) still got in.

In 2021 LSU entered the SEC tournament as a projected 6 or 7 seed in the NCAAT. Most thought LSU could cement or improve their seeding with a good showing in the SEC Tournament. LSU beat an Ole Miss team who was on the bubble then followed it up with a win over 2nd seeded Arkansas to get to the finals where they lost a close game to #1 see Alabama. NONE of that mattered as LSU was given an 8 seed in the NCAAT.

The NIT is different now because a team can earn an "auto bid" by by being one of the two highest ranked (NET) teams who didn't make the tournament. An LSU win tomorrow could vault them ahead of Ole Miss and, thus given them an auto bid. Also, it's entirely possible that both A&M and MSU get in. If that is the case LSU is in the NIT regardless of what happens tomorrow.

A wild, but not completely unfathomable scenario is LSU beats MSU...then gets crushed by Tennessee. The MSU win jumps them ahead of Ole Miss in the NET...then the next game pushes LSU back behind Ole Miss. In that case LSU may have been better off LOSING to MSU and hoping A&M beat the hell out of Ole Miss.

I wish I could live in the complete fantasy world that some posters live in.

I think this is mostly true. The first four type teams have a little more to worry about especially if a team gets an unexpected AQ by winning their tourney. For instance, if LSU did this season.

IF they both get in than LSU is in the NIT easily.

So, it would be better for LSU to lose to MSU in the SEC tournament.

Try playing Fountain and Reed together some, especially against more athletic teams. You don't really lose much rebounding or defense because neither Dean nor Baker are very proficient at either and you get more defensive versatility, especially on high ball screens that teams run at Baker and Dean all the time for obvious reasons if you watch.

Agree 100%. (Although Jalen has played with his head up his butt at times lately).
I’d even like to see Tyrell out there with Derek and Jalen for a few minutes every now and then. I know that coach feels he needs one of his 7 footers out there when the opposition has big bodies. However, IMO, a couple of inches of extra height alone is not better than a few inches shorter but with athleticism, quickness and toughness.

we likely wouldnt make it with 2 wins in the SECT, but quad 1 wins over Tennessee and miss state would move us into the 70s in NET.
Would give us a 6-7 record in quad 1.

Of course this will all be out the window when we lose miss state by 12
I dont see a line on the game yet

I love the optimism, but there is ZERO chance LSU can make the NCAA Tournament as an at-large. That would be the case even if LSU beat Miss. St, Tennessee and Auburn by an average of 30 points. The hay is already in the barn on LSU’s at-large chances…which are zero

We wouldn't be having this concern if we could have closed out the Dayton game

I would have thought this a possibility if we hadn’t dropped the MSU/Ark game(s). Think tie breaker might have been NCAA throwing LSU a bone for getting rid of hated Will Wade, but I think we’re too far away from the bubble to think we might get the nod to dance on conspiracy.

My feelings exactly Brit. One post game radio interview Brady even asked him point blank if he'd ever thought of playing Fountain and Reed together and he said yes but his reasoning as to why he did not was just as you said, he felt he needed the size. My opinion mirrors yours in that neither Dean nor Baker's size makes enough of a difference relatively speaking to Reed or Fountain and compromises more than it compliments...so I was left unsatisfied by that answer.

But at this point CMM is going to keep using the rotations he has been and hoping differently is a futile excercise.

They had a BPI of 81 and a NET of 81.
It wasn't that crazy at all.
