The problem with BI is that he plays slow. Not only does he not run well in transition, but he plays slow in the halfcourt, dribbling and holding the ball instead of making quick decisions.

The problem with BI, CJ, and Zion on the floor together is that they were all poor defenders this year. Zion appeared to have made a jump at the end of the season, but our "big 3" on the floor together simply gave up too many points.

And adding a slow JV to that lineup only made those problems worse. JV is slow and plays slow, and he's a poor defender in space. That's why our starting 5 had a negative net rating.

Substituting Larry for JV with the starters improved the quickness of our offensive sets, and we defended better in space, but our rebounding suffered too much.

The caveat with Larry is that he ended up shooting 42% from 3 this season, which is by far his highest percentage. If Larry can do that again in the future, and if he could be more aggressive and actually look to take those 3s, then I think that he could be decent with the starters. Too often, the opponent would simply ignore Larry on the perimeter, and Larry would pass up the open 3 to do a DHO to BI or CJ.

So, I like the idea of keeping Larry as a backup center more than the idea of keeping JV as the backup.

But we obviously need a new and better starting center. That's obviously Job #1 for Griff this off-season.

I am not confident at all that BI will be traded. So many of you are ignoring the fact that no team is going to trade for him as a one-year rental. The fact that he only has a year left on his deal means that any team interested will have to get an extension worked out before making the trade, and that effectively gives BI a veto on any trade proposal.

I think that Griff can see what we can see, but that doesn't mean that a successful trade opportunity will exist.

It was maddening knowing how obvious it was that if he wanted Dort off of him, go off a screen and attach immediately to the rim or 2 hard dribbles and pull up for the middle...

But nope, BI virtually every single time over the course of 4 games the he got a screen to get Dort off of him, he would just be lolligagging dribbling the ball super slowly around the screen then just waiting around so Dort would just go over or under the screen and have all the time in the world to get back onto BI.

I just don't understand how a player doesn't see that after it happened for the 27th time.

I believe it again reveals poor roster construction and scheme. The roster construction problem has been beaten to death, but an overlooked issue is the scheme. Pels scheme was to get the ball in Zion or BI's hands. They deemed it easier to just get the ball in their hands as an initiator or off elbow sets for Zion and BI respectively. The results were BI and Zion getting beat up throughout the year and compromised going into the playoffs.

There certainly are problems with BI,CJ, and Zion on the court together. The main problem is that we now know Zion is an attacking wing, not a traditional 4 as advertised. With Herb or Dyson added for defensive purposes, you essentially operate with 4 wings and a post as your primary lineup. Again, I'm not opposed to keeping Val or Nance as both can contribute situationally. However, neither fit schematically as a starter but Griff didn't give Coach Green other options. You pretty much nailed it with your assessment. Val slows the pace to a crawl and Nance is undersized.

Obviously there is a ground-swell to shake the etch-a-sketch and start over. I believe this would be short-sighted as the teams' identity is forming. I wouldn't advocate for re-arranging the deck chairs but your core (Zion, BI, TM3, Herb, Hawk and Dyson) are all well south of the 30-year age mark and still improving. CJ is a perfect sixth man, however, I'm not sure if he wants to accept that role and Hawk will definitely contend for those minutes as well. *I'd like add Jose to the list but believe he is situational due to his size.

Pels off-season todo list is to:

1. Acquire a more athletic big that can space vertically or horizontally
2. Acquire a primary ballhandler who is a threat above the arc
3. Scheme a more diverse offense

The first two efforts will greatly help the ability to do the third.
