am conflicted on this. I couldn't rationalizing giving Murphy 25M+, when Jones is getting 13M. That doesn't make sense.

This is like wondering why Ant Edwards makes less than Bradley Beal…they aren’t in the same contract situation. The CBA limits the salary some players can sign at and really depresses their earning potential. Good for the pelicans, bad for Herb jones.

And I think people are just gonna kinda have to get over this aversion to paying Trey $30 million a year. That’s just what good young players will earn moving forward under this ever growing salary cap. Trey is well worth it.

Yeah Herb literally got the max he could from us.

This is similar to Dejonte Murray, who initially took a lesser deal with SA and now he can't get a true max on a re-sign, b/c his salary can only increase so much year to year.

Jones and Murphy came from the same draft class. Jones has massively outperformed him (Jones is a finalist for DPOY). They play the same position and role. Murphy is more than likely going to be his back up. But you want to pay Murphy more than double on the hope that he becomes a 20+ppg bench player as the 4th or 5th option?

Just because he can be paid that much doesn't mean we have to be the ones to give it to him. He's a good player, possibly a solid starter as a specialist. I just wouldn't give him a big deal and make him a top 3 guy on my squad. Guys like him are valuable, on rookie deals. Not so great when they cash in..
