You missed it by a decade. The 70's under Carter was Hell on Earth. Reagan picked up the pieces and turned the 80's into a great time to be American.

No it was bad, but the mid-80s to the mid-90s was the worst period in American history.

Pick pretty much any social pathology (crime, violent crime, abortions, teen pregnancy, etc.) and it peaked during this period.

It started getting bad in the mid-70s but escalated quickly in the mid-80s, then after the mid-90s fell off a cliff and continued that way basically until the spike during Covid (but things are getting better now once society normalized).
