Has always puzzled me why power utilities in storm pron areas are not underground. 10s of billions of dollars have been spent restoring overhead power lines after storms...........but

Because as expensive as it is to fix overhead lines, it’s still more cost effective to keep fixing them than to run new lines underground.

I think everybody realizes it’s expensive but I think a lot of folks don’t understand how expensive. The cost difference between replacing the uninsulated lines hanging from poles when they get damaged vs. running an entirely new grid underground using larger insulated wire in oil-filled conduit is massive.
