None of the players have anything close to the experience with complex international transactions that will be required to merge the two tours. Knowing a lot about playing golf doesn’t make one competent in the sports business arena.

Yes, but on the other hand, the big business guys have very little experience having to navigate a sport where the players actually get a say, unlike the NFL or MLB where players are merely unionized employees. So, they can cut all the deals in the world, and they may make good business sense, but if the PGA Tour players say, "No, those guys are gone and we don't want them back," then there is no deal. I'm not saying that's the right choice for the players to make, but if that is their stance, then it is what it is. They learned that a few months ago:

Officials: "Hey, we cut a deal with the PIF."
Players: "No, you didn't."
Officials: "Yes, we did."
Players: "Well, we didn't, so you didn't."

No deal.
