I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Louisiana’s voter demographic is currently dominated by religious, conservative Boomers who have never seen a joint their entire life.

Rep. Wiley went on a mini tirade, starting off with “and this isn’t reefer madness; we all saw it!”

When you buy at a dispensary with a card here in colorado it's hooked up as an ATM fee at the counter instead of ringing up as a purchase. They just hand you 3 dollars back. Nice little work around the current legal situation.

Sucks for all my baws back home trying to avoid alcohol in lieu of something a little less damaging to your body/wellbeing. When yall start shoving politicians and cops into wood chippers feet first I'm comin home for it.

I feel confident most boomers in Louisiana have smoked dope. I also know the older black democrats community was very pro this ban. They were vocal in Shreveport about it

Jacob Landry from Urban South brewing.

Not him. Joe Garitty and Justin McClaine are who I was referring to. Garrity spoke really well. McClaine did not. Landry was ok.

Baptists have come out in force on it. I don’t know the religious demographics of Shreveport, but I assume related.

Ah, got ya. I thought Landry handled the questions a bit better. Gerrity was right, but came off a bit angrier than is generally useful when testifying before a legislative committee. Not knocking him at all, as I completely get it.

Correct, black Baptist and white Baptist all share extremely similar views, which is odd why they vote so different. I’m Baptist, not a boomer fwiw, I’m against the ban.

Everything north of Bunkie is Baptistland.
I’m glad I live in the Catholic stronghold that is Lafayette. They like to live a little

I saw it as stern but respectful frustration. It's not like the members hadn't decided how to vote already, so let em have it.

Like I said, I don’t hold it against him. And I don’t disagree with you that everyone’s minds were likely already made up. But if you come in hot, you’re basically guaranteeing that no one shifts. And if you do dumb shite like the kid who referenced grandstanding politicians, you’re going to immediately solidify the opposition against you. Legislative committees are not set up to be “fair”. It’s absolutely inside baseball. If you’re going to lose at the committee level, the important thing is to put out good sound bites that can be used when it goes to a floor debate. Your emotional righteous indignation doesn’t translate well.

Watch the beginning and end of the committee debate. He comes off as insufferably holier than thou.

All committees are streamed live and posted on the legislature's website. The testimony in question is towards the end, maybe around 20 minutes before the final vote. SB237 was the first bill considered. House Criminal Justice

Villio is just generally kind of a battle axe. But yeah, she was particularly one sided this go. I don’t mind when she does it as a Rep, but for example, I took issue with her reading the names *and* titles/affiliations of the green cards who didn’t testify but only listed the names of the red cards. That’s just dirty pool.

Legalize it, tax the shite out of it, have a very transparent chain of command of that tax revenue of which 100% goes directly into our school system. That's how you "protect the children", not by eliminating an industry. Other states will just get our money.

These people voting to make this illegal and don't mention alcohol are truly evil, vile humans. They are on the take and should be thrown in jail.

ETA:
They should do this with alcohol too. Vice taxes are 100% re-allocated to school system. Having better schools is the long term strategy for improving the state.
No need. They already fixed the schools and roads by taxing gambling right?

No? Then maybe they should demonstrate some fiscal responsibility with the money they're already taking before clamoring to give them more.

Legalize it to put money in the pockets of private citizens, not professional grifters.

It's pretty much guaranteed to pass now that it's past committee. LA politicians... always looking out for their pockets.... errrrrr the will of the people.

You can still get them from out of state. Spending your money elsewhere. That is clearly what Louisiana's politicians prefer.

For now. Many online retailers will not ship to states with prohibition laws.
