No, the first is the pic taken by the OP. The second is just a picture result from googling western rat snake. The snake encountered by OP may be a Western. See Tigerrrdad's post.

The bottom is for sure a Western rat.Here are a couple Western rats I caught earlier this year. They can be quite darker than these though…
Both of these were caught at the same place…though I only got fined $230 for touching one of them.

I see a new mission in my future.
Redefined my current mission a couple nights ago after I cruised a dor partial anery mud snake. I knew there was such thing as an anery, but didn’t know there could be partials. Now I have to cruise that spot until I find a live one.
For the non-snake guys, an anery is anerythristic - it lacks the red pigment, making a mud snake black and white. A partial anery has a mix of white & red.
