Apparently some of the propaganda films were so good they are still buried. Forbidden Films delved into the subject. The synopsis says:

quote:

1,200 feature films were made in Germany’s Third Reich. According to experts, some 100 of these were blatant Nazi propaganda. Nearly seventy years after the end of the Nazi regime, more than 40 of these films remain under lock and key. Director Felix Moeller (Harlan: In the Shadow of Jew Süss) interviews German film historians, archivists and filmgoers in an investigation of the power, and potential danger, of cinema when used for ideological purposes. Utilizing clips from the films and recorded discussions from public screenings (permitted in Germany in educational contexts) in Munich, Berlin, Paris and Jerusalem, Moeller shows how contentious these 70-year-old films remain, and how propaganda can retain its punch when presented to audiences susceptible to manipulation. —Telluride Film Festival

I’ve heard that “Stolz der Nation” is so hot it’ll burn the place down.

So how effective has that been for Hollywood the last 20 years?

But movies & shows aren’t propaganda. If you don’t like something don’t watch! Isn’t that what we’re told? If Disney , Netflix et al are pumping their programming with The Message, just don’t watch! It’s a kids show anyway, it’s not made for you, why do you care if they gender/race swap a fictional character?

(They then do exactly that to real life people- Hamilton, Anne Boleyn, Issac Newton, etc…)

Seen a fair number of pre-Nazi era German films.

Only one I think I've seen from the Nazi era is "Ferryman Maria" (1936), which I rather liked.

"Triumph of the Will" (1935) has been easily found for decades and decades. Never bothered to watch it, though. Didn't interest me.

Never have liked films with propagandistic messaging. Probably why I often hated films devoted to social issues. They become soapbox affairs, and I find I can no longer buy into a character or a narrative when I feel I'm being manipulatively preached to. My interest and involvement in a story immediately flatlines. Ditto all the woke stuff nowadays. Not going to waste my time on it.
