re: 3 US governors ask Turks and Caicos to release Americans detained over ammo

Griner knowingly brought drugs into a place that harshly punishes possession, presumably these dudes left a few spare rounds in bags used for something else and were likely mostly oblivious to ammo possession laws in a resort country.

They’re ultimately responsible for themselves, but seems like a pretty clear distinction

Illegal drugs in unfriendly country aren't the same thing as 3 rounds of small-arms ammunition.

well Jamaica sucks, Provo isn’t that bad, word on the street is this is a relatively frequent violation by US tourists and the last few got off with wrist slaps due pressure from the US and they are putting their foot down on this one, I would be willing to bet this will be resolved without the dumbass serving the full sentence but will result in sterner warnings to passengers leaving the US

I listened to their interview with the meat eater podcast. They talked about checking through all the pockets of their bags before packing. They made it through the US airports and into the country with no problems or detection of the ammo. The ammo was found when they were leaving Turks and Caicos. It was 2 rounds with no accompanying firearm so completely benign and not able to be used. Both had 6.5 calibers which I’d be willing to bet there isn’t a creedmore or PRC in Turks to even fire the rounds.

Crazy potential punishment for honest mistake with no intent at all.

I guess my larger concern is all of our crack, highly-trained TSA agents and high-dollar screening equipment letting ammo get through on a carry-on.
