So it just came apart under flight stress. I bet that was terrifying.

Something like 90% of the fatal mishaps in small aircraft are due to avoidable mistakes by the pilot.

Don’t you think this has something to do with the fact that PPLs aren’t that difficult to attain and are under-regulated?

Case and point: Jenny Blalock was a YouTube personality who had a PPL yet had absolutely no idea what she was doing while flying. She died in a crash in Tennessee several months ago due to her incompetence. She only had like 500 hours of flying under her belt and still got her PPL. Look her up on YouTube: TNflygirl.

Jenny Blaylock is a perfect example of why private pilots with their own airplanes will get themselves killed. It blows my mind that you can own a plane and do long cross country flights without your instrument rating.

IMO if you wanna be an “influencer” you better be a professional like BigErn, Swayne, Blancolirio, etc. The flywithkay types are annoying and just trying to look cool.

Don’t know what happened, but many a doctor and dentist have met their maker flying on the side.

We had a pharmacist and his wife killed in a plane crash earlier this week here in Arkansas.

PPLs

should be considered(as all ratings should be,) a license to learn, a private pilot is an infant in terms of aviation skill and experience and is at a very high risk time in the life of a pilot, particularly if they don't continue to train, learn, and draw on the guidance and wisdom of more experienced pilots

That’s exactly my point. It doesn’t take that much effort to get a PPL. Anyone can do it. Just because someone has a PPL doesn’t mean he or she is capable of flying a plane.

Airline transport pilot licenses require at least 1500 hours of flying yet almost all major commercial airlines won’t even look at your application if you don’t have at least double the minimum amount.

I have to hand it to the OT...y'all figure it out before the News.

Maybe y'all work for a news agency and can't report it on air or in print due to company policy...but the OT gets it done.

My boss flew into Nashville a few hours ago for a corporate golf tournament and said they might not even play because the weather was so bad (this was said yesterday) so very likely the weather was not cooperating fully.

I could obtain a PPL. But, I do not have the time or money to gain the experience and maintain the currency and recency to be safe.

Unless you have a constant need to fly, leave it to the professionals.

500 hours sounds like a lot of hours to me actually, You only need about 40 hrs to get a license.

I was listening to Bill Burr on a podcast recently, he was talking about flying on an airline and was getting pushback b/c why doesnt he fly private, he can afford it … I agree with him, if money no object, i think id still fly commercial (albeit in 1st or Business class) vs private plane…. Maybe an overreaction on my part, im open to seeing stats that dispute me- but i do know that large commercial aircraft crashes are extremely rare and maybe the safest form of travel there is .

it's all relative, when I hit 500 hours, about 200 were in an F-4 and almost 200 were in an F-15, on the civilian side I don't think 500 hours is quite the same

Well you do have to solo. So you have minimal skills.

I’m hearing he had 3 kids and 2 were with him. They were on their way to pick up the 3rd. So sad.

I saw a comment in Unfiltered's Facebook page which said two of his children were with him. I can't imagine what that family is going through if that's the case. I'd need to be seriously drugged for a very long time.
