“Name brand” gasoline

Is there a difference in shell or chevron higher marked up gasoline vs sams or a quick stop etc. I’ve heard the latter is shite then I heard there is no difference other than a little additive at the end.
At the end 30 cents only adds up to a few dollars per tank but is there a real difference for the vehicle?

For lack of better terms, what you know as base gasoline is mixed together at most terminals. The additives are added in the end after truckers either swipe a card or a code. It's fascinating, almost sounds like a ping pong ball getting sucked into a vacuum when it's injected.

I remember Amoco white gas would substitute for Coleman fuel.

The additives are not inconsequential, but the gas typically all comes from the same place in a general area.

Walmart gas has given me some of the best mpg over the years. Shell has given me the worst.

Me too, and you could buy that, plus minnows and crickets and a homemade ham and cheese sandwich at the same place. Plus a 2 dollar Barlow knife if you were feeling rich.

Well, it can be complicated. I'm going to give you some gross oversimplifications:
First off, Techron is the real deal, and I have seen the test articles and raw data on it at an independent lab. It actually does something useful. Chevron is not the only brand that has it, but you can also catch BOGO sales of it in bottles at parts stores. There are maybe 1-2 other additives with the same active ingredient, but I forget who makes them.
Second, of all the "discount" gas, Kirkland is actually considered a "Top Tier" fuel by the industry. IDK about Sam's Club fuel. Costco actually makes a big deal out of their fuel having a high end additive package.
Third, if the gas comes down a pipeline, there are times when it is separated by water "slugs" from something else coming down the pipeline. SOME cheap gas brands are extracted from the last part of the gas just ahead of the slug, and have a bit of cross contamination.
That's all the OT needs for maximum Baw Dozer motoring. It only gets more technical and boring from here.

Most Corvette owners forums agree and it’s what I use.
Top Tier branded gas, Shell, Exxon etc have additives that do reduce carbon buildup over time on direct injection engines, which is most of them nowadays. You can do yourself by adding additives to “cheap” gas, just be careful as too much will blow the O2 sensors at the catalytic convertor.

Buy a Top Tier (just Google it) gas and don't worry about it. I tend to prefer Shell but it is not scientific. There is also a theory around shifting to different Top Tier gasoline regularly to take advantage of the different attributes of the different additive packages.
Different engines are more sensitive than others. My travel car has the Lexus version of the Toyota 3.3l V6 and it has over 430k miles on it with zero fuel related issues and it has been filled many times with what I would generally consider crappy gas.

The only ones I ever worry about are the stations I regularly see vehicles broken down within a few miles of.
There used to be one not far from me that always had at least one or two vehicles on the side of the road down from it. They 100% had bad gas. It was something to do with their tanks. It was especially a problem if you bought from them while a truck was filling the tanks.
I still won't buy from a station if I see a truck dumping gas. I'll just go to the next one. Maybe it isn't a real concern, I don't know.
ETA: It was a Chevron that had the bad gas.

I put Shell 93 in the MINI almost exclusively, but the only gas I've ever had issues with is Citgo.

There are not all that many refineries in the country, so there can’t be a substantial difference between raw gasolines. The additives are however substantially different. I choose to burn cheap gasoline. I add a can of sea foam every 10,000 miles to keep my fuel system clean.

At our load rack at the refinery Exxon, Shell, Racetrac, BP and Walmart trucks all load at the same rack from the same tank. Some have their own additives but it’s all the same gas

This is a real thing, especially at stations that don't sell a lot of gasoline.
Half empty tanks will condense to the inside and there will be more moisture in the fuel.
Normally that water will settle at the bottom of the tank. The foot valve for the pump will be installed a little ways above the bottom, so it doesn't pickup that water.
When that tank gets really low though and that truck comes in dumping gas in the tank, all that water mixes with the gas for a little while.
