Frick 'em. You don't need these people in your and your wife's lives. Cut them out and cut them off. You owe nothing to family when they act like this, and, perhaps I'm out of line, but the rest of the family should be calling out their heinous act but aren't, so you don't need them either.

Well said. I hate when people say "but they are your family." The response is "yes, I'm sorry that my family is like that" and not "you're right, I'll just have to live with it."
