Super proud of her. She's a junior at Duke and gets to attend the University of Oxford for a semester this year.

Talking to her tonight she told me she will be staying in the dorms at the New College. I cracked a joke it was probably built in the 1700s. She laughed and then we looked it up. The "New College" was founded in 1379...over a hundred years before Columbus stepped foot in North America.

Mind blown.

Cool place to stay to say the least.

I opened this thinking this was going to be about how to protect her in The Grove on Saturdays.

That said, that’s an awesome opportunity. I love it when kids get out of their comfort zone and go experience the world. I’m pushing my junior in HS to do the same thing.

If she wants to see Merry Old England without the tourist hordes of the Cotswolds, spend some time in Herefordshire and Shropshire.

I usually denigrate brag threads but this one is pretty nice.

Oxford is nice but The Grove is very overrated.

It's not really a brag as I had nothing to do with it. It just kind of blew my mind that there is a college at a university that predates the discovery of North America. I mean, I knew they existed, but it was a Wow moment.

I hope she has a good time. I enjoyed my time living in Merry Old England, thought I didn't do much studying except for the bill of fare at the pubs.

Good for your niece….the time to do all of that stuff is when you are young. Love it or hate it, a single semester will go by in a blink. You ought to try to visit while she is there.

Psychology. She's going straight into the master's program when she finishes undergrad.
