You have nice young cops.
I got pulled over for speeding (55 in a 40 zone) a few months back in a tiny little town +- 50 miles below Rayville one Saturday afternoon. The young cop took one look at me and said "I can't ticket an old guy. Slow it down some." and he let me go. How he knew I was old, I have no idea, since I have no markings indicating anything like "Old Fart Behind the wheel" on my truck.
Nice Kid.
I have another example. I worked with a real loud arse prick one time His photo is beside the definition for prick in the dictionary. He went to a Saints game once and parked somewhere clearly marked "No Parking". While he was in the game, they towed his car. It took him two days to locate it and pay a great big fine to get it out of the impound lot. They scratched the paint badly, too. Considering what a jerk he was and how badly it pissed him off, I started to write a thank you card to the NO PoPo dept for their service.
You guys got the very best PoPos.

No other state in America has the ability to produce an Alexandria!

--Incredible outdoor opportunities if you are man enough to handle bugs and heat.
--One of the few places left in the US with a distinct culture and identity.
--3rd and biggest for me. Genuine people who are down to earth, have a great sense of humor and don't take ourselves too seriously. If you've known someone 15 minutes it's like you've known them 15 years. It is such a contrast to impersonal, soulless modern life elsewhere.
I've lived all over the US and 3 continents and the only other place that comes close to this feeling is rural Latin America.

What’s that have to do with it??

When you make a list of bad states, Louisiana always seems eager to be last.

Depends. A guy with a few acres in rural LA can live well.

1) it’s a non factor to the vast majority of people
2) it doesn’t negate what I said whatsoever

Those lists are usually compiled by hardcore urban progressives.

Ranking quality of life at a statewide level is stupid too. Quality of life is very localized for the most part. I'd much rather live in St Francisville or Mandeville than some shitty area of Florida or Texas.

I've lived in 4 states and things are more similar than not. It's really all about how much money you have.
Like I said earlier though, I think I'd rather be "working class"/lower middle class in a WI or MN than an LA or MS. But again, more similar than not.

Exactly.
Some of the happiest folks I know live in La. I mean, its not my cup o tea, but it is theirs and thats all that matters.

The Cajun Navy travels all over to help those in need. Fairly conservative state.

Food costs more than what I pay and it isn’t even close. I was surprised at that when I visited in January.
Your insurance across the board is more. Housing isn’t what it once was.
Gas is cheaper. Awesome. Is it worth all the low redeeming qualities that you deal with on a daily basis?

A lot of excellent points made here on both sides of the argument. Not from here originally but "married in" to it. Some great people here in LA - but it is (and has become even moreso) VERY difficult to not have eyes elsewhere.
Shocking incompetence surrounds you. Poor at best and truly non-existent foresight/planning to be found anywhere. Every major city is an absolute dump--regardless of any redeeming cultural qualities.
Don't get me wrong...there are plenty of positives to be found. I'm an optimist at heart. But it has become nearly impossible to avoid looking at options elsewhere.
There are plenty of good people with good intentions, but that only goes so far. I'd say I'm "stuck" here at least until retirement/kids graduation. But everyone has a breaking point. There is a reason why most "smart/educated" good people leave

I think some people here put too much stock into the constant bitching on TD. It's an objectively very cheap place to live.
