FANTASTIC info !!! Much appreciated ! Thank you TchefuncteTiger, Tigers1956, Treedawg, and the Detective ! The collective info so far is that a Food Town Grocery turned into The Kingfish, next to Uncle Earl's. Earl's is now The Bulldog, and Kingfish, once located at 4355 Perkins Road, is now a gym. The Pistols opening band was Rockin' Dopsie, according to setlist.fm. There is a story that before The Pistols went on, a bunch of LSU wrestling team members, apparantly employed by The Kingfish, walked in front of the stage to act as security (?)

The location sounds about right. I knew a guy who was a librarian at the Advocate years ago and he looked up the Kingfish location for me. They had a lot of punk/new wave shows at the Kingfish back in the day. Think the Ramones and Elvis Costello played there. Did the Police play there or the Bayou? I thought I heard they played at the Bayou before they got huge. I think REM played at the Bayou back in the day. I know the Pixies played there a year or two before I started at LSU.
The music scene used to be a lot better in BR. When I was at LSU in the 90s, I saw Public Enemy, No Doubt, Blind Melon, The Breeders and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion play at the Varsity. Tori Amos, Social Distortion, Dave Matthews, Hootie & the Blowfish, 311 all played there around the same time too.
When I moved back in the early 2000s, I saw Spoon, Ted Leo, Deerhunter, Hold Steady play at Spanish Moon and Chelsea's. Plus you had all those good Cajun bands coming through like The Pine Leaf Boys and the Lost Bayou Ramblers. I missed MGMT and TV on the Radio, cuz I had other shite going on. I mean, I'm old now, but it's super rare someone is playing that I want to see. I'll try and go to the Melvins show in the fall.

Yes! Saw Jeff Pollard Band there several times while in college. They were a talented bunch of guys. Too bad Jeff decided to leave.

The Police never played The Bayou, but REM did in 1982. I have no idea why I didn't go to that show. Perhaps it's because I really wasn't a big fan of the band.
I think The Police played the Kingfish, though.

I was there for all of Johnnies Rotteness..it was great. I went to just about every live show they had back in the '70s. They were more in the corner of the shopping center next to Uncle Earls. the door was to the left.
Damn those were the fuking days...

Yeah. My hearing hasn’t been the same since. Steve Jones played insanely loud. Sid had Gimme a fix scrawled across his bare pale chest in black marks a lot and Johnny sneered a lot. The NYC punks that I waited in the line to get in were all pissed off that they had to drive all the way to BR.
I think I scored the last three tickets to the show from some record store on College Drive. I heard about it on the radio on the way home from the airport and couldn’t believe the Sex Pistols would be playing the next night. My tinnitus is real.

The Kingfish became Peppy's(dance club disco/bar) owned by Glen Bynum in early to mid 1980s, while Mac Brousseau carried on with Uncle Earl's next door.

I believe it was the first site of Uncle Earl's...
That is where the Bulldog is now located.

Then it was Cat Ballou to cash in on the Urban Cowboy craze.

Do you remember when Southdowns Lounge used to have a parking lot party with live music? I remember the Jeff Pollard Band playing there, but also a band called the Copas Brothers. I think I may have been in the 9th grade at the time and entirely to young to be there.

I listened to several songs from that show on YT and I must say that the band sounded very tight and very good.
I was surprised. My impression of the event was that it was a very sloppy show, but, the truth is that it was an excellent show.

Saw Johnny Winter at the Kingfish sometime around 1978 or 1979. They walked him out and helped him get up on a stool then brought him his guitar. He was really messed up but played great. Awesome show.
