The family has set up a trip this weekend to Natchitoches to view the Christmas going’s-on’s. I’ve never been.

Any recommendations to do/eat or not to do/eat?

Thanks in advance.

Looks like Dec. 7 is the big festival day, so traffic and crowds may be major. I avoid the big day and venture down any other time. The lights shine just as bright on other nights.

The shops and restaurants are along a short walkable stretch. They’re all pretty decent. Had a good meal at The Landing last year, and Pioneer Pub has good beer selection.

Wasn’t my choice-I’m along for the ride on this one. I hate crowded Christmas events, etc. I’d rather coat my hand in honey and stick it in a fire ant bed. But you have to choose your battles. I’m just trying to make lemonade here.

you walk up and down Front Street and look at the lights, maybe walk in a few of the shops along the way

as for restaurants, its probably going to be whichever you can get it or has the shortest waiting time

good luck

There are fireworks and lights every weekend but this weekend is the big festival weekend. Traffic is going to be atrocious. I usually leave town but I got roped into staying this year.

As somebody already mentioned, all of the Downtown/Front St restaurants will be super busy this weekend so it's pretty much just wherever you can get in. Short list would be Lasyone's, Pioneer Pub, or Mayeaux's.

Cane River Brewing is a cool place but a little track outside of the main downtown area. They will have the LSU game showing on a big inflatable screen along with their other TV's throughout the facility. They usually have a food truck or two that are decent but I don't know who is setup to be there this weekend. Since they don't serve food themselves they also allow customers to bring food in or order through food delivery services like EZ-Street or Waitr.

I honestly don't know why people go to the trouble of coming into town this weekend but I'm certainly glad you do because it is a huge boost to our local economy.

Here is a link to the Christmas Festival web site for a list of events this weekend. Natchitoches Christmas Festival
Trail Boss Steakhouse is a good place to eat that is not around the riverwalk.
Like everyone else mentioned, the amount of people that come into town this weekend is insane.

Because I have a mother-in-law who books rooms for stuff like this without telling everyone then guilts my wife into going on the trip. So guess what...

You're welcome.

here is my tip: when the fireworks start and everyone gets up from the restaurants and goes outside, that is when you get a table

so find someone who doesn't care about the fireworks (which is me every time we go) and that person misses the fireworks, but will secure the rest of your group a table
