Last Friday was their last day. The Facebook post said it had a 28 year run. Living close by, I will miss it even if the food wasn't always that great. I have lots of memories at that place as I was sent there as a kid to buy groceries from Tic-Toc Grocery. No new business planned there as of yet.

We stopped going when I guess new owners raised prices, not paying almost 30$ for fried shrimp or catfish… looks like nobody else did either

Didn’t they get in trouble for claiming they sold catfish and it was some other cheap fish?

AlxTgr, you old enough to remember Newcomb's Pizza? On the service road close to the Baptist building.

The food was still good after the simms sold it but it just wasn’t the same . They raised the prices to high as well . Alexandria people want Texas road house portions and prices . It’s a shame because the catfish was excellent.

I don't recall that. But then again, my family didn't eat out at all other than Picadilly once a year.

Was Robbie G not the owner anymore? What is he doing now? Still in the golf industry?

The food had a bright spot from time to time when Shelton had it after the Simms, but this latest version was awful. It had nothing to do with the prices. Service was bad. Twice had orders just forgotten when we were one of only two groups in there.

Aside from the burger and the soft shell crab poboy nothing was consistently good. Catfish became a no go, the last time it was just a slimy mess. I will eat just about anything and didnt even finish a piece.

It is a shame, we need a place out this way to serve cold beer and good simple food. We are busy as all hell with our kids and would probably eat there weekly

Agreed, but we also need a GOOD down home Italian restaurant.
Johnny Carino's = chain
Verona's = so so, hit and miss
Bellino's = barely open for in house eating

I agree, but I probably like Verona more than you do. The Bellino's thing just makes no sense.

I haven't been since pre Covid. I don't know how they stay open with their current business model. Sad, too, because that was about the only "nice" place I liked here besides Verona.

Honestly, Huckleberry Brewing has been our go to lately.

Wings and tots are really good. Beer is great and they are very kid friendly
