At this point we shouldn’t just take someone to add numbers. We have the numbers, we need a 1 year instant starter. Huntington could be a bust after jumping up in competition that we are then stuck with for two years. Like are we positive he is an upgrade over a guy like Lee?

Adding* : It would be so nice if McKinley comes in able to make some sort of immediate impact. Would handle a lot of issues.

I think we need to two best DTs we can find (regardless of how good the are). When you discuss numbers, you have to look at those that can actually compete at the level we play at. Our numbers are very low.

Can Auburn frick off? They’re not just a DT away from possibly winning a natty like we are they can afford to let us get a guy at that position.

Lsu is a dt away from winning a natty?

News to me.

Well we know we can’t compete for one if we don’t get any help there, so that’s why I said “possibly.”

I’d argue they are two away from seriously competing. Go check the national title odds and report back

Yes he’s the guy we are targeting and we are circling back to West also.

If we land West, and Huntington, it completely changes the tone of the defense. Potential game changers on the defensive line.

Certainly West and Huntington could help.

Also, one poster did mention two incoming freshmen DT's, though I don't think they were named.

We don't really know yet on Dominick McKinley, who doesn't arrive until summer, but was highly rated. Also De'Myrion Johnson of Westgate.

Does anyone think at least one of these guys will be ready to contribute this fall, at least by mid-season or later?

This isn't the right question. We know that Jalen Lee is not good enough. We don't know that about Adin Huntington. He at least gives us a chance.

It's not typically how you want to operate, but the direness of the situation dramatically alters the risk-reward calculus. The risk that you *might* have to dedicate a scholarship to a non-useful player for an extra season is dramatically outweighed by both (a) the reward if he can actually contribute, and (b) the risk of going forward with the group we currently have.

Also, the odds that he spends a second year at LSU if it's clear after one year that he can't hack it at this level are very, very low. Why would he spend his last year of eligibility riding the bench?

I sure wish that West was available earlier. Having him graduate in August and then jump to an SEC roster wouldn't be ideal. But I suppose we can't be overly picky at this point.

I don’t think we ever had much of a chance with him. I don’t remember us getting a visit or even a possible visit then when he couldn’t graduate on time I think they just stopped being interested. Oh well onto the next guy I guess or Bo is going to have to really coach them up and earn his paycheck

You think this kid would choose Indiana over LSU?

Yeah, those odds always end up being right.

They couldn't even do it last year with an elite offense and a defense with two tackles that just got drafted into the NFL.

A defense doesn't go from struggling to compete to in the picture for a chip by getting 2 average dts. This defense should struggle again this yr. And the offense isn't anywhere near last yrs imo.

Well he apparently did as LSU reached out tried to get a visit and he never came on one then LSU started going harder after Williams and The one from Mich State. Maybe he got upset about that or maybe when he couldn’t graduate LSU stopped pursuing but yea he chose Indiana over other schools including LSU as they did make him an offer
