I really would like to see freshman Derrick Mitchell get some at bats. Supposed to be very talented just raw. He may not be ready but hey Kling is hitting .155 in SEC play so not like he could do any worse.

Also get Frey, Brown and Ruddell at bats. I know they have all struggled with limited at bats but again Kling has proven in almost 2 full seasons he is overmatched by SEC pitching.Need to give some other guys a chance to prove or disprove they can hit SEC pitching.

If he can only hit a fly ball to centerfield off a pitcher throwing 60 MPH then the MLB may not be in his future.

Without knowing any recruits or transfers coming in my outfield ranking would be:

1 Larson
2 Brown
3 Pearson
4 Frey
5 Ruddell
6 Kling

I guess you can add Mitchell to the mix even though he never played this year and Harden JUCO will join the mix in the fall

he still has a fairly high ob% (.397), 6th place among the starters. he has been hbp 12 times. the LSU fans are telepathically transferring their frustration with Kling by willing the opposing pitchers to plunk him. often.

but as has been established, it does not matter how he gets on base. and he steals bases at an 80% rate (8 for 10). so even with his poor at bats, his productivity is not as bad as his pitiful at bats. 2 strikeouts with no swings in one game. ugh

Hooligans ghost you are using his total seasons stats. He has proven he can hit lower level non SEC pitching well. However his SEC batting average is .156 and his SEC OBP is .289 both are indefensible. He has shown this year and last he is unable to hit SEC pitching. Kling along with Neal and his .114 SEC batting average need to hit the portal for a place like Southeastern or McNeese where they have a chance to hit the pitching.

Started strong last season but hasn’t progressed since.

He had a hamstring injury then never seemed to rebound. Last night he hit the ball hard but right at people, which he has done a bit this season in addition to striking out,

He needs to get out of his own way, IMO. He is just a head case in the batter's box I guess.

His fielding and speed combo is great, if he can add just average hitting not many would be complaining about him.

This guy Kling is so bad, there just isn’t a need for anymore threads about him. It’s all been said. Move on from him. He’s soaking up a scholly that they can give to a Louisiana player.

I would not say Derrick Mitchell is raw. The kid has a lot of talent, baseball knowledge and skills to play at this level and beyond. He comes from a family of professional baseball players. Grandfather played for the NY Mets. Also, I read that he is cousins to Mo Vaughn and Hunter Greene. Unfortunately, he is in a situation where the outfield was crowded and the coaches decided to go in a different direction and redshirt him. I look forward to watching him next year. Great talent and has huge upside.
