Yes. . . he had the talent but it couldn't be JUST that. At least SOME of the 2019 success has to be attributed to scheme, play calling, offensive game plan, etc. What exactly was he able to do that other OCs like Denbrock are not able to do and why are we not able to throw the ball more than 10 yards down the field?!?

He ran easy to execute schemes that would often present mismatches and space and Joe was aboe to identify and capitalize on with our elite WR talent

This. I remember a coach from Clemson saying we knew what plays they were going to run but we just couldn't stop them.

Had arguably, the greatest college quarterback ever combined with a filthy receiving corps.

And an offensive line that gave them time to operate in both the run and pass game

Exactly. The greatest scheme ever is limited by its weakest link. Burrow's ability to find the open receiver was exceptional. Chase and Jefferson had exceptional ability to get open.

It’s amazing what he did with the best college QB, 4 NFL WR, 2 NFL RB and an entire OL that is in the NFL. I think the guy did good things, but the talent was everything. If Brady should get credit for anything it should be the summer of 100,000 catches.

Joe Brady was able to step up in the pocket, go through his progression, and deliver an accurate ball.

People do not fully appreciate Jefferson’s ability to run routes and get open and when combined with Chase and a seasoned, accurate QB it’s game over at that level.

I remember watching a film study of Jefferson in the OU game and it was pretty cool. Jefferson was in the slot of course, and on most of the plays he would literally skip the first five yards and depending on what the linebacker did he would either run an out route or an inside slant. The play was unstoppable he would get wide open no matter what the linebacker did.

He spread teams out and used motion to both get guys in good spots and to make the defense show its hand (think about CEH or Moss sprinting way wide)

He used the bunch formations from the Saints/Payton playbook to do the same thing in terms of identifying.

We ran tempo with the same groups so defenses both couldn't sub and, again, would expose their weak point and couldn't adjust

That and having a GOAT-level QB and 2 WRs who were top-10 WRs in the NFL as rookies, respectively.

How many times this year have you seen a clean pocket for him to throw from? More often than not, he's under heavy pressure by the third step of his drop. Yes, his instinct is to take off and run, but often times so far that has been the best decision for him, given the pressure.

Joe Brady ran a lot of the same concepts that Mike Leach runs- Mesh patterns, sail patterns, where defenders have to make a decision, but in our situation now that type of offense isn't conducive to success because Daniels doesn't have the time (or seemingly the proclivity) to make 3-4 reads that Burrow could. Daniels only has time for 1-2 quick reads before he's got to get out of there. Burrow had a Joe Moore-Award winning offensive line in front of him. Daniels has a far less experienced group trying to hold it together.

This year's offense could do itself a lot of good by running quick breaking route concepts, more quick screens, and more up-tempo. Stretch the field horizontally and make their defense have to handle our skill players in space. Running up-tempo would force the defense to play in more basic schemes and without substitution. It seemingly is where Daniels seems to thrive as well.

Had Burrow throwing to Chase and Jefferson.

Oh, yeah, behind a line with four NFL starters (as first day rookies) and two other NFL players.

In short, he had about 14 NFL players on an offense with three NFL superstars.

Yeah it was very Air Raid-inspired in terms of concepts (which isn't shocking considering that's what most NFL passing games are modeled after these days). The sad part is that our offense seems to be back to the polar opposite on a conceptual level, where our coaches think complexity is the key to getting WRs open.

LSU ran an RPO offense where you had five potential targets. The QB reads the position of a safety or a LB and immediately knows the hot receiver and starts his rad after the snap there.
