Listened to some Arkansas radio this morning and the hosts knew the owner personally and had been in contact with him (he's based out of Oaklawn Park) and essentially said the following:
quote:

[Mystik Dan] isn't really eating a lot right now. He's pretty exhausted. They just say that the Preakness is such a quick turnaround, it's not looking like he's going to be there. You have to look after the welfare of the animal first.

Dang, hate that. Always takes away from the interest a little. But..

Don't need any horses getting put down on the track.

Went to Cpt. Shreve HS then moved to Arkansas as an adult. They run at Oaklawn all the time.

Makes me sad that I will never see a horse like Secretariat run in my lifetime

I mean, unless you were old enough to see him, most likely nobody will ever see a horse like Secretariat run in their lifetime. I doubt there will ever be another horse like him ever again.

American Pharaoh, though not the horse Secretariat was, was a treasure to watch. Justify's triple crown was fun to watch and a great horse obviously, but didn't have quite the shine to it since American Pharoah had just won the triple crown a few years before.

Last time they wheeled him back he ran bad, so this isn’t surprising.

I wish Repole would run Mindframe. I doubt he will, but it would be nice.

I always watch the Belmont, though I hate that it’s 1 1/4 this year, because they build such a good stakes card around the Belmont.

I hate that trash can pimlico and may actually skip for the first time in forever. It will be baffert vs AOC horses and that is no fun. I’ll check Twitter to see if he broke anything down.

Stronarch lets him get away with murder. He gets the same treatment at Monmouth, so I also hate the Haskell.

Iwy, justify gets an * on his triple crown, and not just because he didn’t actually qualify for the derby. That Belmont was one of the most rigged races I’ve seen outside Louisiana. And not just then instilled regard interference, there were lots of horses not entered and equipment changes made with horses of slightly common ownership groups

And he was never a sound horse.

I miss the Visa triple crown challenge. $1 million to whichever horse gets the most points in the 3 races, $5 million if there had been a triple crown.

Bring that back and we’ll see more run in all 3.

The organizers of the Preakness and Belmont have to panic every time they see this

If he's not 100 % after the Derby, why waste him? This and next year's TC races should have an asterisk for the Belmont, since it's going to be run at Saratoga at a 1 1/4 miles. Besides, McPeek doesn't run horses coming g back that soon. Baffert horse will cruise to a easy win. Muth? Won the Arkansas Derby?

Completely inaccurate. The bettors love it. More opportunities

Barbaro doesn't break down, there was no doubt in my mind he would've won the TC. He was an absolute monster, that was trained by a legit horseman. I still believe to this day the vet should've scratched him after breaking loose from the gate in the Preakness. Many rumors swirled that he injured himself

I was never old enough to see Secretariat, he died a year before I was born lol. Watching his sportscentury though was amazingly awe inspiring. He really was something else. The unfortunate thing was that the runner up Sham in all 3 races was a record setter himself and would have won a triple crown probably if he wasn't up again Secretariat.
