I wasn’t around for the alydar/affirmed battles but I’m glad I got to see Sunday silence/easy goer.

Sometimes in the older mare division we’ll get a few of the good ones staying around. Malathaat/clariere/letruska was always fun to see in the entries.

I wish horse racing would push the big names after the triple crown. I’d live to see some match races like the old days.

They are all barely limping through their 3 year old year on ankles that get injected before every race

That kills me.

We were spoiled in the 70s. After the great horse won, we were treated to the Affirmed/Alydar rivalry, and their Belmont race is probably the best battle of all time given the stakes. They were neck and neck the final mile.

Seattle Slew had won the TC in 77, Affirmed in 78 and we should have had the hat trick with Spectacular Bid in 79 but reports that he'd stepped on a safety pin the morning of the Belmont stopped the streak.

It's only been a few days since the Derby. Has he decided this already?

Seems a bit soon to declare him out. It would be a shame if Mystik Dan can't run in the Preakness.

Greatest horse race I ever saw outside of Secretariat's winged victory at the Belmont.

I would not object if they added another week between the TC races.

They aren’t declaring him out. They are waiting until the day entries are taken.

It throws off the entire racing schedule, not just those 3 races. Also, I’d rather a full overhaul of the breeding industry, because thats why we have horses that can’t run. I’m still fricking pissed at the big farms (looking at you spendthrift, Winstar, etc) for getting the breeding cap tossed. We REALLY need some good outcrosses but don’t seem to have that anywhere.

Thank god unbridleds song finally died, but some of his kids still pass on the glass skeleton.

I just need somebody, ANYBODY, to at least make Muth earn it. I swear to god if baffert is left alone untouched on the lead again, I may become homicidal.

The 2005 Preakness when Afleet Alex got knocked to his knees in the final turn, almost losing the jockey and driving ahead for the win is my all time favorite. What an incredible display of athleticism and heart.

Last time they wheeled him back he ran bad, so this isn’t surprising.

I wish Repole would run Mindframe. I doubt he will, but it would be nice.

Correct. Do you know how many straight 3 yr old races going long that are Grade 1 or 2 this summer? he can pick any spot he wants.

Haskell-Monmouth
Travers-Saratoga
Ohio Derby-Thistledowns
Penn Derby-PARX
Iowa Derby-Prairie Meadows
Super Derby-LaD

and i might be missing a few. No need to try and wheel right back if horse is not right. Its a long summer...

$$$$ He had the cleanest ride in that Cavalry charge. Why risk getting exposed? Owners know they got lucky.....Probably putting him out to stud while the iron is hot. Winning the Derby alone is enough to demand the cash these days.

This. The odds of winning the triple crown even after winning the first race are not good. Get that money now.

One is a closer and one can’t get the lead

Double, it’s been a long time since the super derby was graded. Unless there’s a big change I don’t know about?
