What QB room would you prefer to have?

A.
Starter: 35 year old top 15 QB
Backup: whatever backup you can get in free agency or a mid/lower round rookie QB
B.
Starter: Top 10 pick rookie QB
Backup: whatever vet you can find in free agency that will happily take “mentor” role.
C.
Starter: 35 year old top 15 QB
Backup: top 10 pick rookie QB
Starter: 35 year old top 15 QB

“B” is probably the dumbest move to not take the top 15 NFL QB.

B.
A & C are in flux where the starter is on the downhill side of their prime if not out of it. At least with B I have a future and a cheap starting QB to build around and create a window.
A is the second option assuming C took mortgaging my future in order to lock up a QB who will be in his last year of his rookie deal or on a second deal before he even plays.
C is the worst option. If I have a top 15 QB and a top 10 pick, I either leveraged my future to get the top 10 pick when I should be gettting assets to build around a final run, the QB is coming off a major injury, or he's a "top 15" QB that was castoff because his cap hit stretches beyond his value over the other "top 15" QBs.

Providing zero context to this is really the dumbest move of the exercise, actually. And I can obviously identify your teams.
But assuming this top 15 QB is making 40-50 mil a year, it only makes sense if you have a roster around him that can reasonably compete for a championship in my opinion. The Vikings were 7-10 last year. If I have a roster stacked with rookie deals of value? Sure, I’ll take that guy

Do teams make the NFL playoffs only on the depth of their qb room? Or do the other 20 starting positions, plus specialty spots, factor into a winning team? Cause if it’s the latter, I’d like to use the 8th pick of the draft on a starting position, and not a backup spot.

You’re having to use a lot of words to rationalize not taking the top 15 QB.
There are about 15-20 QB’s in the league capable of taking teams deep into playoffs, and if you don’t have one then that is automatically priority #1 until you get one and that can take several years.

Not at all. If I have a top 15 QB and had a top 10 pick I used on a QB, then I don't have a top 15 QB. If that is my choice then I will take the versatility of a rookie QB deal without a salary cap anchor from the veteran QB making top 15 QB money.

It’s just one pick you’re having to use for that rookie backup QB and you can use later picks to fill holes. Is the difference between a first round and third round DE great enough to forego someone you think has a great chance to be your franchise QB in 2-3 years while being a quality backup QB in the meantime?

The correct answer in this scenario is almost always B unless the QB in A is a Mahomes/Brady/Rodgers tier player.
C is never the correct answer, because if the 35 year old QB is getting paid $100M for a team who wants to win now, then the top 10 pick should be used on an asset to patch one of many, many, many holes on the roster.
History has shown that if the Falcons think it's the right move, then it probably isn't.

There are about 3 who are capable of winning a Super Bowl AFTER getting a massive contract, and only one (Mahomes) who has proven he can do it in the rookie wage scale era.
