When RDJ and Stiller are talking about Simple Jack.

The trailer with Tobey Maguire is hilarious.

After deflecting an RPG with a TIVO, instead of staying with the group, McConaughey just runs back into the jungle. Always made me laugh. So many funny moments though.

When RDJ sings the theme song from the Jeffersons .

BUT

One of the most underrated moment is when Danny McBride is talking to Nick Nolte and says

The layers in that.

I have no idea how RDJ wasn't blacklisted for that. That risk took massive huevos.

It has always impressed me that Tropic Thunder had both Downey and Cruise playing roles well outside their norms and they both knocked them the frick out of the park. To me, that alone makes it a sleeper hit worth watching whenever it comes on (the unedited version, of course).

It caught all of those actors at the perfect time. MM and RDJ before their renaissances, Cruise before MI had its back end renaissance and that’s all he started doing going forward. Plus Jack Black and Ben Stiller when they were both still A list comedy stars (not that they aren’t, but I can barely remember the last leading movie I’ve seen them in compared to seeing one a year with them in the 2000s).
