Do we think Gayle would pay the 1st lax line if we went over it,

I really don’t see us upgrading too much without that or getting off of BI or CJ’s deals and it looks like they are running it back with them. I think I feel like Grif said changes were coming but it feels like it will be the fringes of the roster.

Until she realizes she needs to get rid of the politician GM, no we aren't paying the tax.

They'll always be an excuse as to why we aren't ready to start being a tax team, and our lying GM will explain how if it makes sense next year we'll absolutely be a tax team. But there will always be some excuse as to why it's not time just yet.

I think she would if everyone in the building was 100% convinced this was a Conference Finals type of team. I don't think she would do it for multiple years.

Its not gonna happen this year, because they are going to be taking salaries and rearranging them, instead of adding on additional salary

If we are trading BI, i don't think it makes sense to be a tax team next year anyway, unless you are making a trade where BI goes out and someone like KD or Beal come back with their $50M salary.
We can get better and stay under the tax next year.
It will likely be difficult to stay under the tax in 2026.

Gayle isn’t a serious owner.

Until you have a team capable of getting through a series, going into the tax or the repeater tax isn’t going to happen.

Worst possible scenario for the team is going all in only to end up staying in the play-in or missing altogether while subject to repeater limitations.

Unless Phoenix is paying us to take Beal and he waives his no trade clause, that one isn’t happening.

And I seriously doubt Durant comes here.

Exactly. People act like simply being a luxury tax team instantly makes you a contender.

We are 12th in the NBA this season in total cap salary.

Warriors were 1st (missed the playoffs)
Clippers were 2nd (we finished only 2 games behind them)
Washington was 5th (finished 15-67)
Lakers were 7th (we finished 2 games ahead of them (regular season)
Cavs were 15th (finished 4th in the East)
Knicks were 17th (finished 2nd in the East)
OKC was 21st (1st in the West)
Pacers were 24th (finished 6th in the East)
Magic were 28th (finished 5th in the East)

Nah, people are acting like being a luxury tax team is required to make you a contender, which is so.

Another thing that is so, we are 1 of 2 teams in the NBA that have never paid the tax.

Exacty. To be a true title contender I don’t see how you can’t be a tax team. Quality role players force you into the tax just as much as the stars. OKC is a once in a generation type club full of young guys on their rookie deals and they had a huge season but what about when the bil comes due on SGA, Williams, Chet, etc. They will pay SGA Williams and Chet but they are a notorious blow it up and start over team every 5 years it seems. They are loaded with draft picks too though so they are sitting in an envious situation.

Paying the tax to have a shot at the title is one thing.

Locking yourself into the tax with a team that hasn’t been higher than 8th seed with a 4-1 loss and a 4-0 loss isn’t great.

Granted, this was a fricky year with regards to how good the west is, but finishing 7th in the standings then going 1-1 in the playin doesn’t lend itself to “Let’s lock in this lineup!”

Can’t imagine that she would considering we aren’t a player or move away from contending.

I love that fact and think it's awesome. I actually love us being a thrifty team and wish we could be way under every season. It sucks they made the rule that forces a team to be at 90% of the cap now. I still don't understand what happens if you don't..

Why?? Lol. Do you get some personal benefit from Gayle not spending money? Considering I’m pretty sure every nba title team likely at some point paid the tax. It seems like you care more about Gayle’s pocketbook than you do about us winning a title.

Pelicans are a farm team.

Paul
Davis
And soon Zion

The Pelicans draft them, get them to superstar status and then trade them

Not even specific to this reply. It’s funny how many ppl ignore evidence that goes against their thinking. Poster gave evidence from this season and it was ignored, at least in the copy/paste.

SGA already makes over 30M. Chet is under contract for 2 more seasons after this one at under 15M, Williams 2 more seasons under 10M.

They are gonna be fine cap-wise for a while.

You said people act like simply being a luxury tax team instantly makes you a contender.

When you said that people act like simply being a luxury team instantly makes you a contender, did you you mean that people act like simply being a luxury tax team instantly makes you a contender...or not?

If so, my point stands. If not, why you say something you didn't mean?
