How exactly does he know who a team was attempting to trade up for? I can buy those teams called about trading up, but why would they tell the other team who they were trading up for? Nonsense if you ask me

I think that's a lot more common than what fans think.

Why wouldn't the team trading down ask?

Why would the trading team be honest if they answered. If the trade up team is honest, they tip their hand for later picks

ETA... if saints called to get penix. The team with the pick could call a qb needy team and say saints are wanting penix... you better give us more

Or the saints actually liked penix and need a wb for the future.

Yeah, a 26 year old first year starter in 2026 would have been awesome.

Reputation for future deals. If you lie, you're going to decrease the future talks you have.

This makes no sense.

why do you think the Vikings traded up 1 pick?

*ETA: sorry Vikings was the team I meant

We'll just disagree. I don't think for a second GMs are honest with each other about who they're picking. If they are, they're idiots

Again, why did the Vikings spend resources to trade up 1 spot to a team who had no need for QB? You think they were told something or did it for shits and giggles?

Bc everyone knew the broncos and Vikings wanted qb. Vikings didn't want Broncos to go first.

who TF is James Palmer?

The latest guy to be paid off by Fontenot to throw out rumors that can never be proven to take some of the heat off of Atl?

There was war room videos like last year of the some team doing draft day trades and the GM straight up asked who they were trading up for to ensure it wasn't the player they were targeting.

I imagine it's extremely common to be transparent during a trade.

Because if they weren't they'd ruin their integrity and that would be the end of teams trading with that GM

That seems dumb to me. Saints call about penix. Team with pick calls 3 qb needy teams to run up the price.

And the integrity is paid back by calling another team to get more for said player

ETA... and Palmer scooped everyone on this. I'm sure with at least 4 teams involved (3 trying to trade up), Palmer is the only one with this info

It is odd that the Vikings would give up a 4th & 5th to move up 1 spot and get a 6th unless they were tipped off. Especially if they were getting calls from Denver basically assuring them that both teams were leaning QB and their OT was probably save to fall to 12 if they did trade with Denver

Common sense tells you that Denver would rather go ahead of Vikings when both are desparate for a qb. If Vikings wait, they know Denver will try.

A random reporter from Denver has saints sources? Doubt it.

Either that or we’re doing Terry Fontenot a solid by telling some reporters we were interested in penix so Fontenot can try to defend drafting him.
Or we were doing Fontenot and the birds nasty by making him think we wanted Penix, that we knew they were thinking about Penix, that we were reliving the Mahomes nightmare of having our QB1 of the future picked ahead of us, and that spooked them into a meh (at best) 1st-round pick instead of someone that could really help them NOW.

See, I can play that what-if game too!
