Look up Mexican gulf charters.

It’s been a good 7 years, but they were top notch when we went.

The two mentioned already are about as good as it gets down there.

Peace Marvel is still around and is one of the guys who helped pioneer tuna fishing in Venice, although he is doing a lot of sword fishing now he still chases tuna.

Lastly if you haven't looked into it much prepare yourself it will be well over 2K for a day trip with fuel.

Do it

Intensity
Relentless
Mexican Gulf
Fish Venice/Eddie Burger
Paradise

Those are just a few. Majority of charters down there will put you on fish if they’re biting

Avoid the Osprey guys. Had a bait and switch trip with them a few years back. Wanted to tuna fish and they wanted to snapper fish. We kept asking to go chase tuna and they did not want to.

Any of family members have sea legs? If not, I’d look for an operation that has catamarans or seakeeper onboard.
Also, if you’re looking for tuna, you will probably be doing some chunking so consider inviting couple of family members or close ones.
All the outfitters mentioned are great, best of luck trying to find that balance between a seasoned capt and a young capt that’s mad at em. lol.

The big tuna are caught in the late winter early spring for the most part. It’s very hit and miss, 20-30% odds really from what I’ve seen they just move a lot.

If there’s only 3 of you, you really should split it with someone else. As said it’s $2400+ gas and tip last I looked for most of the guys. Gas is going to be $600-1000 most likely.

Go Long Charters - Capt Gray Long. 20 years in the business running multiple boats. Always on fish down there. We use him multiple times a year for client fishing. Just got a brand new SeaHunter Boat. Newest boat in Venice!

Gray is aces. As good as anyone down there. OP, if you need someone to jump on to help with expenses, post in here. I’ve seen some trips filled that way. I’d be in if the dates match.
