At one time before Spirit got big and Frontier headed for the basement, Southwest was pretty darn cheap if not the cheapest. But in the last 15 years their prices are pretty much on parity if not slightly above Delta, UAL, AMR. Southwest had/has decent service compared to Frontier and Spirit, which wins the casual suburban travelers.
