What are some cities or places that you've vacationed at, enjoyed, but not to the point where you feel like you ever need to go back? Basically, one-offs...this is cool, this is alright, but been there and done that, and no need to circle back around to it?

I know I'll catch flack, but for me, the Gulf Coast. It's pretty, don't get me wrong. I enjoy it, and the sugary white sand is great, but I have no reason to ever go back. It gets crowded, hot, the beach does nothing for me after a day or two (it's routinely too placid for me to really enjoy), I can take or leave deep sea fishing, the restaurants are nothing special, and simply renting a chair and umbrella and drinking beer while listening to Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, or whatever music the people surrounding me are playing doesn't do it for me. I've been in off season, and while I enjoy it a little more, it's dead down there. You also get a lot of snowbirds who are rude and inconsiderate.

We go there a fair amount (less and less recently). It's a quick drive from BR, but I just want to go to other places now.

I love the Gulf Coast. I find Atlantic beaches far less appealing, but I'll take either in a pinch.

Maybe it's because my old company was headquartered there, but I don't see the appeal at all to vacationing in NYC. I have friends that go every year, and I think I'd rather spend a weekend in Mexican prison than dragging kids around Manhattan.

The Grand Canyon, especially if you aren't hiking it or visiting the North Rim. If you seen it once, that should do it.

No kidding? This is a bucket list for me that I've yet to scratch off the list.

Santa Fe / Taos (been 4 times just because it's only 9 hours away. I'm sure we'll go back because of that but I never have loved either place)

Vegas. Went last year with my wife and two boys. We had a blast. Once was enough.

Disneyanything: Went once with the family. Had a blast. My son is on the spectrum, and we got whatever the super fast pass was that you could get at that time. It was awesome for bypassing lines. I don't think they offer that anymore because douchebags were getting fake doctor notes (like "therapy" dogs now to bypass no-pet policies). Anyway, we had way more fun than I thought we would, but I don't need to go back.

France: I've been. It was fantastic. I don't need to go again. Too many other places to see.

Taos: I love the southwest. We got to Santa Fe a few times a year. We tried to fall in love with Taos. We stayed there a few times for a week or more. We just couldn't get into it like we are into Santa Fe. The shops/stores downtown kind of suck. The restaurants pale in comparison to Santa Fe. And there isn't that much to do. We will likely still go to Taos on occasion, but I put it on the list just because it's a city I should love, but I just haven't been able to love.

Care to briefly expound on each?

I'm with you on Philadelphia. I love the history and its sites (Liberty Bell, Franklin Institute, Reading Terminal, Betsy Ross residence), it's just unfortunately situated in between D.C., Boston, and NY which offer so, so much more. I found it to be a little scuzzier than those three as well.

Care to say why? East Texas caught me off guard.

Nice city, but I'd much rather spend time in Oslo or Stockholm.

Downtown San Francisco.

That used to be one of my favorites. Now I will stick to the areas north and south of there.

I liked it, but not need to go back. Would love to go back to Provence area though

Punta Mita/Puerto Vallarta .. all just okay there. Though on one visit we stayed at the Imanta, which was amazing.

Singapore

Costa Rica ... no real need to go back, but enjoyed my trips there at the time.

It was big and the interior towns are depressing. There are many better places in Italy, an I am Sicilian.

Trashy. If I'm doing the island thing, I'm going elsewhere.

It's hell on earth yet we are going once again around the FSU/LSU game.

We were just there in July. Great city. Love being able to bike everywherem although there was a lot more car traffic than I had expected, but it was absolutely overrun with people. Mostly European tourists.

Also I much prefer the ability to get out to places outside the city in places like Oslo and Stockholm than in Copenhagen. I can't think of anything I can do in Copenhagen that I can't do in either of those cities.

San Sebastián surprises me.

I spent a week in Vitoria-Gasteiz for work and would go back to the Basque Country in a nanosecond.

ETA: Others posted Vegas and Puerta Vallarta. Vegas is so radically different than when I first went 20 years ago that I do t care if I go back. I went to PV in 2017 and can’t wait to go back; I loved it there.
