Normally I’m the type to do things on my own and not do prearranged tours. However the wife and I will have just 2 days in Paris this summer which happen to be a Saturday and Sunday just 2 weeks before the Olympics start. Thinking crowds will be at a maximum and in order to make the most of our time we might do some guided tours. I’ve looked at Viator and The Tour Guy. There are a few “Paris in a day” tours that hit all of the highlights in one day. Then thinking the other day maybe a half day trip to Versailles and then then maybe the catacombs which are close to the hotel. Any recommendations from past experiences would be appreciated.

We did a tour of Notre Dame and Sainte-Chapelle, a tour of the Louvre, and a tour of the catacombs. I used Viator for some, and Liv Tours for others. Viator just connects you with a tour operator - read the reviews carefully. Liv Tours has always been fantastic everywhere we have used them. We wanted to see the highlights in the Louvre, and didn't want to spend all day so a small group tour was perfect. The catacombs are unbelievable and well worth a visit if you have time. We saw Sacre Coeur and Eiffel Tower on our own, and just walked around different parts of the city.

We used a company called Paris Muse to tour the Louvre. We did this tour:

Hit all the main attractions of the Louvre in 2.5 hours with a private tour guide...young girl who was an art history student.

Also did a group tour of Versailles, which was fantastic too:

A fun thing I did was do a night time tour in a Citoren. Got to see a lot of sights in just a few hours. The Lourve is a can't miss attraction. But so not enter from the pyramid you want to enter through the underground adjacent Mall. One has a two hour line the other 15 minutes.

The eiffel tower is also something everyone seems to do. Get tickets in advance if you go and do elevator as the stairs are killer. Beware the multiple scammers in the park adjacent to it.

The metro is really good and takes you almost everywhere.
If you're a saints fan there is a Saints fan bar about two blocks from Notre Dame, was cool to see.

I know that New Orleans bar you are talking about. It is on the left bank in the Latin Quarter. I walked in one night to ask what the New Orleans connection was. No one knew what I was talking about and they looked at me like I was crazy. It looks the part though.

One thing the OP can do is buy a two day museum pass. This allows you in to most museums and other attractions without having to stand in line. The Louvre and D’Orsay are included along with Versailles which you can get to by RER train from the Place St Michel metro station across from Notre Dame.
