re: Any clue about Griffin Herring staying or entering draft?
Posted by da prophet on 6/6/24 at 9:42 am
Saw a recent top 200 mock draft, he was at 156 and Jones was at 186. I think Jay ought to assume both are gone, although I think Jones is more likely to go than Herring. If Herring comes back and becomes the Friday night guy, he probably moves up to 2nd round maybe first. ...
Plain and Simple unless we kill it in the portal will be an SEC Doormat that will take lumps and get pounded with Ft and Sophs. Zero starting pitching and all of our offensive production is gone.
It’s crazy how dependent on the portal we’ve become. Years ago when there was no portal...

re: Revisiting Jay’s #1 Recruiting Class

Recruiting has definitely dropped a notched with the new Wild West transfer portal. The portal has been a big part of LSU’s success. If Jay doesn’t hit the portal really hard, chances are LSU will not be competitive next year. Major holes to fill with pitching especially if Herring leaves. Holes...
It all goes back to what Jay values

Brown is playing because he can hit. He’s not a natural outfielder. You can see it on judging balls off the bat. Jay values offense at almost every position. A good college outfielder makes that catch but does he hit a home run to tie it. Leave by a player’s offense, die by his defense....

What really hurts

LSU would’ve had a really good chance of beating West Virginia at home to get the Omaha....
re: What will finally cause Robo Umps to be implemented?

It’s used in the minors. Skenes was 11 for 11 on challenges. Umps call pitches, pitcher can challenge....

Need to end umps calling balls and strikes
Posted by da prophet on 6/2/24 at 8:38 pm
Call it a ball because the catcher drops the ball? WTF? And the strike zone went from expanded to ridiculous the last inning....

Van Horn is a head scratcher. Won the sec west the last 2 seasons and got a national seed both years. Then flame out in relatively easy regionals at home. ...

re: The two biggest reasons we were below average

The main reason is you lost many great players and returning players didn’t step up. Travinski and Hurd are prime examples....
Catchers interference screwed us

Would probably be 2-0 instead of 5-0....
We left our hitting and magic in Hoover
That’s why Skip didn’t care about SEC torurnament. Vandy went 2 and barbecue, LSU and SC are in the losers bracket. Tennessee is at home in a ridiculously easy regional. That’s the final four SEC tournament teams....
re: Defense is difference..
Posted by da prophet on 6/1/24 at 7:05 pm
Jay values offense over defense by a wide margin. Defense is definitely a weakness. Many other teams have better defensive players at each position. Many first baseman would have made that catch at first base. ...
