I worked with "at-risk" kids some time back in a residential job training program. Some of them were at the center by choice, others because their families made them go. I took a liking to one young man who was genuinely interested in bettering himself. He knew he had to start by earning his GED, ...
I could immediately picture Margaret Lawhon sitting at the bar when reading this.
Was at Zee Zee's one night when Margaret, Shingleton, and others came in after the late news. She got hammered and fell off her stool and took 2 others down with her. Drinks and shite flew everywhere. I...

After my own father passed in 2005, my father-in-law basically became my surrogate father. We were very close. I watched my FIL deteriorate as a result of congestive heart failure and dementia. We noticed over Christmas that he was developing cognitive issues. Less than a year later, he was gone...

Gonna be in Pass Christian with friends in a few weeks and we're looking for a nicer restaurant on the coast. Narrowed it down to Mary Mahoney's, Half Shell, Rack House, and The Chimneys. Thoughts?...

re: New landscaping beds

I've always used landscape mix to build the beds. Mulch on top. Used Plant Tech's and Clegg's, both worked well for me....
I have a partscaster that is built around a 25th Anniversary Strat body. Crappy Porsche Silver finish and everything. Bought the body, neck, Fender tuners, Kahler trem, and prewired pickguard assembly from Jimmy Foster at Foster's Guitars in NOLA in '83. I assembled it with his help. I've upgraded i...

re: Sealing new concrete driveway
Is there any reason to seal it
You could. Just realize that just like any clear finish used outdoors it's not going to be permanent. UV, tire wear will break it down over time. And you can bet that it won't weather evenly. Some spots will look better than others....
Anytime. I've been out of the paint business for a bit, but some stuff you never forget, ETA: You can brush or roll, but if you can spray, that would also work....
Use 100% acrylic latex, the best you can afford. The most sheen I would use is satin. Sherwin, BMoore and Valspar Duramax are your best bets. Pressure wash, using Jomax if necessary for mold or mildew. Don't go with a color much darker than the siding already is, because dark colors can c...

re: Induction vs Gas

Posted by BasilFawlty on 1/18/24 at 2:31 pm
I know you're considering induction, but 3 friends have gas Z-Lines, and all have had problems. Two friends have had them replaced. Take very long to preheat. Knobs melting on front of the stove. Oven doors leaking heat. One set off the carbon monoxide monitor in their house. They look nice, but bas...

re: Painting vinyl siding

Posted by BasilFawlty on 12/31/23 at 10:21 pm
Acrylic is certainly the best choice for vinyl siding. Pressure wash then paint. Use Jomax if you have mildew issues. A medium gray is about as dark as you want to go. Too dark can make the siding warp from heat absorption....
