cold water would boil faster
Physics tells us this is wrong, but many people persist in believing "alternate facts". Another is that previously-boiled water freezes faster. A popular belief is that water in altered physical states can have special health benefits. You can buy dev...
I recently replaced a damaged section of a 6' fence and now wish I'd gone with 8'. Most screening foliage has been removed. The back neighbor leaves 3 soffit mounted flood lights on all night shining directly through my windows. An 8' fence would block some of that light. I'm thinking about topp...
Thanks for informative responses. I've had no personal experience with joint replacement but know five people who have had it done. Four turned out good-to-great, but one ended up with a fused knee due to post-surgical infection... possibly related to dental work....
Friend 78 went in for a knee replacement this morning only to have the surgery delayed for 2 weeks. He had a minor scab caused by scarping his knee while gardening last week. What's the reason... infection risk?...
Visited Lima & Machu Picchu pre-Covid. Tourism has changed so much that many of my experiences will be out of date. That said, managed everything with Vaya Adventures which specialized in South and Central America at that time. They are still in business. It was all private travel, not a tour. We s...

45 is a bit young for "feeling old"... except for women. Worry about aging after 65. Watch and seem if there is any connection with what you eat or drink. I finally realized that just one or two glasses of red wine left me feeling slightly off all the next day. Vodka not so. Also watch out for mo...

re: Row of corn in garden

Posted by Tree_Fall on 5/3/24 at 6:38 pm
Corn is a heavy nitrogen feeder, take the advice about side dressing. Also, corn isn't a great addition to a garden. Full ears require heavy pollination, and multiple rows leads to better pollination. ...

re: Funky odor in garage

2nd guess after something dead is wet old fertilizer. Some types break down and smell. 3rd guess is wet packaging on a damp floor. My garage has no vapor barrier in the slab. Moisture wicks up through the slab wherever something heavy is of the slab. After ruining a few stored boxes, I learned t...

I haven't planted a paw paw yet, but I've researched them online a bit. This nursery up in TN sells them bare rooted for winter planting. https://www.tnnursery.net/products/pawpaw The problem people have with not bearing fruit may be related to fact that they are fly & beetle pollinated... not...

re: What are the pros and cons of HOA?

Posted by Tree_Fall on 4/30/24 at 1:41 pm
In normal times supporting my HOA isn't very important, but I do it. Now that St George has the go ahead, I face the prospect of total strangers whose main skill set may be circulating petitions, will be making decisions that may greatly impact me. Active HOAs for all the impacted subdivisions...
Start in Portland then take a slow drive north up the Olympic Peninsula hw 101 enjoying a mix of coastal rain forests, rugged beaches (walking, too cold for swimming), picturesque towns, etc. Then loop over to Seattle and fly home. Otherwise, work west (ocean) and east (Casades) out of Portland....

Once you get a look at Cleggs production facility on Greenwell Springs Road you realize that few regional retail nurseries can match them potting plants to live oaks. ...

re: Black/purple rice

Worldwide there are many many varieties of rice...all colors and lengths. Personally, I like the minimally milled "brown rice's" and have been cooking a lot recently within short grained... nuttier imo. Purple rice may be better for you, and the Jazzmen brand used to be widely distributed...ma...
Met special exhibits can be brutal especially during holidays when out-of-town relatives hit. Skip those, make a virtual gallery visit online, then go see a few long-term exhibits that interest you. Arms and Armor is a good choice. Extra tip if you are in Paris, don't stand in line at the Louvre ...

re: Anyone been to Belek, Turkey?

Posted by Tree_Fall on 4/25/24 at 9:17 pm
Haven't visited Belek, but did have a great stay in the coastal town of Bodrum to the west. That region of Turkey historically was biblical era Greece and has many historical sites to visit between golf games. That coast has been a tourist destination for a couple of thousand years. Tourists and ...

re: Art printed

The NOLA area has a number of good digital printing shops. A restorer in BTR I've used has printing done by Professional Color Services, a large operator in Metairie. They are setup for on-line submission. A smaller operation in NOLA specializing in prints for artists is Cresent Prints NOLA ( ...

re: Landscape rec for Baton Rouge

I've had Drew do two paver jobs that I'm generally pleased with. The first was a learning process for both of us because I wanted used clay brick and some herringbone pattern. I didn't know that used brick can be mixed sizes, inconsistently cleaned and have a high percentage of badly broken brick...
