During Monday's press conference, head coach Brian Kelly was asked about five-star freshman QB Walker Howard and how he has progressed since arriving in the spring.
quote:

Q. This isn't a question about playing him now, but just since you got Walker Howard in the spring until now, how much has he improved, how much has he picked up on and learned since you started coaching him?

BRIAN KELLY: I would say every day that he is with us, there's more knowledge because I'm in the meetings with the quarterbacks. He has a great football knowledge. He is mentally strong. He believes he is better than every quarterback we have, which is awesome. I love that.

I don't mean that in any way other than he just has that kind of make-up, which is what you want. He respects everybody in the room. But, yeah, he continues to develop, and we have a good feeling about him.

Howard represents a bright future for P&G. These lean years make me appreciate the great run we had the past two decades. Tigers will get it back. Expecting better than 6-6 or 7-5 this year was just not realistic. Razor thin depth but competitive

Good QB play does indeed make for better offensive performance. But solid O line play makes good QB play easy. And, when you match solid O line play with a great QB and skill players, you get something exceptional... ask Joe Burrow! LINK

Let's not rush any young QB into the pit until BK puts a solid O line in front of him. Until then JD is a viable option.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I wish people would stop shitting on Kelly until he’s been here for at least 1 season. We all knew it was going to be a tough year and that we have plenty to fix. Good qb play makes the world go round and we won’t have that for at least a year. So many problems are alleviated by good qb play. Wish we could all just give the guy this season to get things worked out.

Exactly 1 year from Today, full season, full recruit cycle, full SEC schedule, then let these COUCH Coaches spew their experience of coaching Elite athletes in an Elite Conference, I’m sure CBK and Staff will be ready with pen and paper feverishly taking notes from some of the best coaches, from your 6yr old sons flag football teams that are 3-3 in their division of the west region of their neighborhood league.

I don't believe anything an LSU coach says about a QB until I see it. We're going on about 15 years of bullshite at the QB position outside of a couple transfers.

Really sad when the best 2 QB's that have played for us in the last 15 years were mett and burrow. Both were only great 1 year and both were transfers from UGA and OH ST as you mentioned.

Yes but in that 15 year span we LSU did field the GOAT QB in college football history So there’s that.

Brian Kelly put 1 quarterback into the NFL, and his career sputtered and died. What faith can we put in Kelly to develop any quarterback? Right now, it is a failed experiment.

That and a history of unimpressive ND offenses were my biggest concerns after looking at the Denbrock and BK hire.

Yet Kelly just had him handoff against Southern…

He has that calm natural confidence. It’s not manufactured. It doesn’t need work, it’s there and isn’t going anywhere no matter what happens. He’s not fragile and knows who he is. I think all these QBs can be successful, they just need the right offense. For some reason coaches get to LSU and think they don’t need to use any gimmick plays. Why? Use all your tools, especially the first year of building this thing!

I envision Myles Brennan going, "huh, I'm 3rd, lawd, lawd, lawd, okay, good luck with that."

Imagine a qb who sits in that room and thinks they aren’t better than the rest and you’ll start to see an image of Max Johnson come into focus.

Sissidog0220 months
Max had a better LSU career than Brennan, let that marinate for a minute, and only played 1 year to Brennan’s 16.

Nuss is going to transfer and then JD and Howard will be the two for a "neck in neck" competition where JD will "win" again because he's got "more experience." I'm becoming fluent in CBKese

Great point, only BK uses words like win and more experience.

I think part of the reason Kelly is sticking with Daniels is that he fears Nuss might do well and create a qb battle next season and he really wants Walker to start with little controversy.

Right he’s not starting a guy because he thinks he will be to good and win too many more games.

Walker Howard is NOT ready yet. He won’t be ready next year either. He could probably play next year but he’ll take some lumps. I thought Daniel’s played much better in this game, he just needs to have an offense designed to highlight his play. Not use one or two of his skills, use them all. Have a threat to run, give or pass every single snap. We do that mixed in with quick passes, down field passes, big runs from the RBs and give the ball to Boutte and Bech out of the backfield and let those guys bully people. You have to mix it all up and confuse the defense. That’s it. We do that and you’ll see a much better team. We could have beat Tennessee y’all. It was clear that they couldn’t stay with our WRs. Had we ran to the outside those DL couldn’t just crash inside on run plays. They were plugging the middle. Run around that shite.
