Speaking to reporters following Saturday's Grove Bowl Games, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin made his feelings clear on the NCAA's spring transfer portal window...
quote:

"We still have one practice Monday, exit meetings with players and stuff and, you know, when free agency opens — but people are already kind of announcing they're going into it as you see around the country," Kiffin said, via Inside the Rebels.

"So it's just where we are," he continued. "Like I've said before, it probably sounds weird for me because I think we take advantage and we maximize the system. That's in place as well as anybody. And it's benefited us as well as anybody around the country. But it's really a really poor system."

"And here we go again, guys already announced and they just got somewhere in January. They're leaving again already. So they went and got paid. You know, took up spots and it's not their fault. It's not the players fault at all," Kiffin explained.

"I mean, this is a system that's created that they're utilizing in the NFL. [Imagine the NFL had two] windows a year and you could opt in every year or twice a year, guys would do it … So it is what it is."

He is telling the truth. Just as Saban was. You can benefit from something at times and it still be something that's broken overall. I admire him for calling it down the middle.

Yet he is 100% correct. The portal is death. NIL is easy to maneuver but when any kid can pick up and leave and be immediately eligible at the next stop it’s a disaster.

Do these collectives not have contracts? How about school scholly contracts?

Stupid to dismiss any blame on the players that are gaming this system negatively. Coaches are stupid for bringing on any players doing others dirty like this.

Schools need to figure out how to lock players in with contracts for scholarships only, and get into conferences with teams that only do this. Elite div 2 type of conference. Sad to say I haven't really cared about watching my schools games like I used to, as getting vested in players is pointless.

Apparently Saban knew what was coming when this all started and was criticized for speaking out about it.

It had to happen, sooner or later. Lane should retire early, pick up pickleball until it happens there, sooner or later.

Lane can’t retire. Most of his money goes to Layla now and he’s into her for a lot until his kids clear college at least.

If the NCAA tried to implement any rules or guidelines they would just be taken to court and lose like they have with everything else.

with regards to NIL, i agree.........but transferring they should be able to implement rules for that and be totally within their rights to do so.
