quote:Yeah, I think that was the issue. It was made more apparent when we had to completely replace the entire secondary again, and also plug in a couple new linebackers. You don't see that amount of turnover at the NFL level; usually if you have someone decent, they stay and grow. And if they leave, more times than not you have groomed a replacement. You usually only plug and play 1-2 key players.
Much better fit for nfl.
I’m convinced the scheme was way too complex to implement for the average college player with the restrictions of college time
I also think that was a factor for getting all Louisiana guys as replacements- stronger instate recruiting, to get those hidden 3 star guys that will stay, and will be a lot better than most folks projected.

I get all that….but the misuse of Perkins this year (who was a star at his position specialty that stayed around to “grow”) was incomprehensible.
He showed a complete lack of preparation and creativity that resembled something pretty close to indifference. When your offense spots you 40 PPG, you do not get a pass or an excuse for what he put on the field.

Who knows, maybe Brooks was counted on to be the key of the defense. Maybe they hoped Perkins would be a dominant MLB. Maybe they thought Chestnut would be able to hold his own against tall WRs, because he had good coverage skills... maybe they thought Chestnut would be a key later on in the season. Maybe they thought Speights would make a positive impact on the game- he had good film. None of that happened. We don't know the details on Chestnut, whether he pulled the plug himself or if he was benched (I think he quit).
And again, it points to building from recruiting, so you have guys in the system. You can see their progression with your own eyes, instead of taking a portal transfer and hope it fits what you want.
House will be ok. He got the same tier job he had in the NFL before he took the LSU DC job, so I'd say he landed on his feet.

House was solid for KC before going to LSU. He also was Josh Allen’s dc at Kentucky. That may help with the contract stuff going on with Allen this offseason. Let’s hope he was just a better NFL position coach.

He did help us win 10 two years in a row. BUT he helped us not win 11, 12 or 13 each year.

Jacksonville to go with a 4-0-7 Defense next year!

Worked out pretty well for Lawrence Taylor...
