The delay was BK doing his due diligence and vetting other candidates. Who cares if Hankton left, you fill the WR coach if he does. Sloan is the primary play caller.

What happened the last time elevated a couple guys with mediocre history and no experience to Co- coordinators?

Ensminger was a mediocre OC and we brought in a guy that had a resume of LB coach at William and Mary, GA at Penn St and 2 years as offensive assistant for the Saints. And we relied on him to revamp the offense. Also the HC was not an offensive mind.

This time we have a QB coach elevated that was an OC at Tech. He developed the QB with the highest efficiency rating in CFB history. What we don't know is how much Sloan worked with Denbrock to tailor the offense to JD. My guess would be quite a bit. Hankton likely will have inputs, but the majority of the playcalling will be Sloan. Lastly this HC has an offensive mind.

I believe he’s referring to the infamous “Mal-veto” defense (a poor comparison, imo)

I know, but I was giving an alternative argument.

Hankton was already the PGC, so this entire conversation is a poor comparison.

Nailed it. Talent can cover up scheme WAY more than scheme can cover up talent, especially in college where the talent gap is much larger.

much like saban's DC spot, you're unlikely to ever see Kelly hire the big name at OC for obvious reasons.

I'm also OK with some stability at the position, its been a constant turnover of OCs for a long time now. Big name or not, its not great to be installing a new offense every other year. You let Sloan continue to develop a talented QB room and the play calling takes care of itself. Were people clamoring for Denbrock before Jayden went nuclear this past season?

what is the reason we didn't go out and hire one of the best OCs in the country?

because the HC is no longer an inept retard that relies on smarter coaches to prop him up Derek

Hey buddy. You been good?

So we shouldn't hire elite assistants because they'd overshadow Kelly?

is an elite OC coming to work under a guy that won't let him run his offense untethered? Again, there's a reason most of Saban's DCs were unproven commodities and not hot name in CFB. It doesn't make sense for either party

Did we not hire hire some big name assistants on the defensive side?

Why are you such a miserable little bitch?

Hot take:

CBK did some negotiations with Woody to buyout the entire defense and go get the workhorses on that side of the ball. In exchange, He'll save some money by promoting two position coaches and CBK will take more ownership in the offense (at least next season).

This was my preference. But I still have to wonder if Kelly was waiting to see what Rees did considering this announcement was made twelve hours after.

No, because it allowed them to spend an outsized portion of the assistant coach budget on the defensive side of the ball.

Let’s roll. I think most rational fans know we don’t need an overhaul on offense. If the way to keep Sloan and Hankton was make them Co-OC’s, so be it.

I’m confident we’ll continue to have a good offense.

Brady and Ensminger worked out ok.

Actually we don't know that. We know Burrow worked out OK. I said at the time on another board that you can give credit or not to 3 main factors in the 2019 offense. Burrow, Orgeron, and Brady/Ensminger. So far it appears to me that Joe Burrow and the surrounding players on offense (Jefferson, Chase, Marshall, Helaire, etc) deserve like 95% of the credit, the OCs about 5%, and Coach O like 0%. The only credit I give Orgeron is when the LSU coach/analyst "discovered" Burrow as a potential transfer, Orgeron didn't nix it.

Now what’s Sloans numbers at LATech

Wow, you don't keep up with La Tech at all do you? To try to criticize Sloan for La Tech's offense is utter nonsense. La Tech's recruiting is garbage...I keep up intensely with their talent level because I went there. They haven't had a QB anybody would even want since Jeff Driskell came there via the transfer portal.
